I enjoyed the game, but I completely agree with all of these points.
Nobody gives a fuck about Lovecraft or American "literature" in general.
I'd say the only thing that really, truly went wrong was the box art. That hideous, terrible box art. Henry may be the main character but that's no excuse to have him splayed out like a bronze-plated starfish on 60% of the box art.
They should've gotten some hot-shit comic book artist to make the box art, and perhaps promoted the game through online ads or something.
