>>334390813
I believe the reason why it was cut early is that they could not think of a good story reason JC would need to go to space. Same with white house, but also they just didn't want you to go through the same room 200 times.
Playing this game for the first time and its fucking awesome.

>>334392598
You aren't missing much, plasma weapons are mediocre as hell in Deus Ex.
>>334392598
It's a shame that plasma rifle is absolutely terrible in the steam version. Apparantely it's accidentaly replaced with the multiplayer version and does jack shit for damage. I wonder if it is still in effect for Simons? His shots don't seem to damage you that much.

put off your nostalgia goggles, the game has aged like milk

>>334405948
Graphics are shit and some mechanics are incomplete but the game is good. For example your data storage is literally inside your head but you can't view it while inputting codes into computers using your fingers. Also you have iff built into your vision but you can't record a map of your surroundings. And every muscle in your body is nano-augmented but you can't climb up a meter high box, instead you need to be able to jump on top of it using your legs only.
>>334405948

If you need more DE just play The Nameless Mod. It's as good as the original and is better in some ways.
Doth thou not hate those evil goats with their melk and templae?
>>334411439
Isn't TNM just a 2000s memefest?
>>334411568
Nope. It has a lot of forum humour but the plot is fairly solid and the campaign is as big as DE.
There are also two factions so you can do the levels from different perspectives.
>>334411724
Also it doesn't completely shit the bed like DE did.
Not that DE had a bad final few levels (like Bloodlines) but they were noticeably sparse.

The only good things in IW.
>>334391821
High-damage weapons make excellent lockpicks. Explosives, the energy weapons, the sniper rifle, and the crossbow all do the trick pretty well.
>>334413381
I played IW a few days back and it wasn't that bad.
The constant loading is shit as was the universal ammo system but it's fairly solid.
It's to Deus Ex as Thief 3 was to Thief 1.
>>334395971
Is it really? Every single time someone brings it up either they praise it or call it complete shit and a disgrace to the name.
I should just pirate it to find out for myself but I'm sure that my expectations will let me down.
>>334412708
Dunno, the devs seem pretty open about what they messed up in the first game and they even delayed the game so that they could deliver a finished product, which is more than a lot of places do these days.
>>334413837
That's a pretty good analogy, actually.
Thief 3 had pretty good writing though.
>>334414051
>>334414051
They kinda sorta fixed some of the shit that was wrong with it. The devs also pretty sincerely appologized for the game's flaws, the most glaring of which was the bosses and the fact that you not only had to kill them all, but that there was no real way around them or alternative methods to beating them outside of throwing grenades/shooting wockets.
I would point out, I mean, it's comparing apples to oranges, but Metal Gear has always been the same way. That might have been their thought process, since MGS is without question the biggest stealth franchise.
It was a misunderstanding that what is so fucking amazing about Deus Ex, besides the dystopian cyberpunk conspiracy story is how it is so goddamn open-ended in terms of how you can progress through the game and didn't have shit like end of level bosses really.
All that tl;dr being said, I absolutely fucking loved DE;HR and, for me, it's pretty much on par with the original. The original is better, but HR is a pretty great game in its own right.
Definitely pirate it. If I could, I'd send it to you on fucking console cause I have like 6 copies of it. It's definitely worth playing.
>fix bugs and allow stealth approaches to bosses
>get rid of the stylistic tint
>no option to turn it back on
>>334415453
I agree on that.
I played Human Revolution first and its a pretty damn great game. It was missing a few things but it was easily one of my favourite games of the last generation.
Deus Ex 1 is def more open ended when it comes to what you can or can't do. However I feel like the story exposition was really lacking and I didn't really feel any impact. More like a "that's it?" at the end. However that didn't really damper my opinion of the game, the level design was so good. I loved playing through levels and finding my way through them.
>>334415680
Everyone complained about the tint though. I was okay with it personally, but it was a huge complaint.
You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time or whatever. Still, an option to turn it back on would have been cool for the people who did like it.
>>334415927
That seems like such a petty ass complaint. The piss filter didn't bother me at all, felt kinda cool actually. The only real issues were the "boss fights" that were just "throw explosions at them"
>>334415453
the only thing id say bad about HR besides your points is that they've really gotta tone down the obviousness of alternate routes
in DX it was "ok champ heres a map of the area go explore and go nuts"
in HR its more "ok adam you can go in the *FRONT DOOR* or try and find an *ALTERNATE ENTRYWAY* HINT HINT"
>>334415927
It was how Adam saw the world since he was wearing sunglasses all the time, it made the game better to me
I don't give a shit if it didn't make sense in the prologue, I liked it
>>334416139
This.
You usually had the front door and a handy-dandy maintenance tunnel right next to it in HR.
>>334416153
That's a pretty cool explanation actually and actually provides a context instead of something like Fallout which is just GREEN TINT CAUSE RADIATION(???)
>>334395230

One of my favorite vidya moments was trying to open up some footlockers with an explosive barrel. But there was no way i could stay in line of sight to shoot the barrel, without getting caught in the blast. So I went around to earlier in the level and got ANOTHER barrel (Actually I think they were TNT crates) and put that at a corner where I could safely shoot it, and its explosion would explode the original crate, which would destroy/open the footlockers.
Its not even TECHNOLOGY, its just game design/mechanics

I'm a big fan of IW. I loved it when I played it at release and I still do. But then, I've loved every moment of every Deus Ex.I have The Fall but I have not played it. I have a bad feeling. Though I did enjoy Icarus Effect.
>>334424552
Play IW, motherfucker. Listen, the problems with IW are as follows:
- the base textures suck (need the community texture pack)
- level sections are tiny and there's loading everywhere, thanks xbobama
with a few points also subracted for:
- universal ammo doesn't make a huge amount of sense and can be a pain in the ass (firing a rocket means effectively losing a ton of bullets, for instance)
- DX didn't need to be less RPG-y, dammit. in IW there's only augs. but at least your character starts out with the ability to aim a fucking pistol.
I say it's a good game and a welcome member of the franchise. Your mileage may vary.
>>334424649
Well, it was going to.
On a somewhat-related note, any of you guys play any of the original's major mods? I've played Zodiac a couple of times and The Nameless Mod once (but need to give it another go).
The former was based on the main story but kinda went off the rails -- mainly because we didn't know for certain thatthe ayys were just transgenics, at that point. Good experience, overall.
TNM isn't based on the story at all. It's huge with tons of options and the world itself is pretty much supposed to be like a VR version of the PlanetDeusEx forums. It's more interesting than it sounds. And those motherfuckers stuck it out for something like seven years to get it finished and out the door. Fucking impressive.
I'm currently in the middle of a DX playthrough that I've been picking up and putting back down since 2011. Planning on buckling down and finishing that, then running through IW and HR/ML again (probably playing Missing Link in the middle of HR for the full chronological experience -- minus playing the prequel last, of course) before playing MD. All that said, I really want to give the original's Give Me Deus Ex Mod a shot. Looks boss as hell.
