Hell yeah. I loved gold version when it came out, and when heartgold came out I had my brother cheat me in my final team from the get-go. I had a level 5 tyrannitar, level 3 celebi, level 3 porygon, level 5 kingra and a level 5 ho-oh. or something. It was awesome.

I mean, technically speaking wild Pokemon in Kanto are supposed to increase in level per routes in the same way Johto's does, but for the sake of still giving the player a challenge, gym leaders were adequately leveled for the player. Since its easy to get through Kanto quickly, most gym leaders in Kanto weren't much stronger than each other. How do you think this could've been done better? Make wild Pokemon higher leveled? Lower gym leader levels and require the player to essentially start over with a low leveled Pokemon in that region? Make Kanto in general harder and more fleshed out so you can't move through it as easily?

Not him, but I always wished that gym leaders, elite four, your rival etc all had pokemon that leveled with yours. I think having the gym leaders have level 50-60 pokemon if yours are in that level range would make it better. Or maybe HG/SS did that, I don't remember

You know, I really liked that you could rematch both Johto and Kanto leaders, and leaders, like my home girl Whitney, who only had 2 or 3 Pokemon, would come back with a stronger level 50+ party of six.

Kanto isn't the problem. Until you unlock Mt. Silver after BEATING THE LEAGUE TWICE, the highest level wild pokemon are something ridiculously low like level 27, and by the time you get to the higher level pokemon of Mt. Silver, they're still a good 10-20 levels lower than your team, meaning there's literally NO good training spot from the moment you reach the 6th gym out of 12 + 2 leagues + Red

My favorite is HG/SS, but I think Gen 3 was actually pretty good. I think it is my nostalgia though, because I can fondly remember enjoying it for being so fresh and different compared to the first two gens, not necessarily speaking of gameplay, but even just the Pokemon you usually encounter in the wilderness.

After Gold/Silver, the next game that really made improvements was Emerald. It actually gave you end-game content that wasn't capture all the pokemon. From there, there wasn't a large improvement to the game overall until more recent ones where wifi and easy trading became available.

Well that's the reason why you get called nostalgiafag, and shamed.
The other games are mostly more of the same, same basic formula.
They add some improvements (specially the running shoes are a blessing), items are easier to use, better menus, more moves, more pokemon and reusable TMs and HMs are in Black and White 1 and 2.
Other than that and the reason why I dropped it by then, is that they seem to not put much effort in the game itself.
There is lack of features in the GS (internet trading system) and it is full of trolls and crap, you can't filter.
Other details that I can't remember right now, made me sad.
It is a cash cow series and it is visible.
They make the minimum effort to keep it afloat just cause it is for kids.
