I picked this up on a whim and I really love the design and feeling of it.
But see, I don't have a single game to use it on that I wouldn't rather mouse and keyboard because I've intentionally avoided controller games up until now due to not owning any. Give me some titles, DS3 is the obvious one and I'll probably go for that while it's still topical, but I want to know what my other options are.

God of War is pretty fun. Uh, what else? Hmmmm. Half-Life 2 if you haven't played it yet. Darkest Dungeon works pretty well. Most of my time I've been On Attila though. Just go the viking dlc. Sweet!

I'm lurking as I've been playing Dragon's Dogma for months and might be looking for something new to play. Not anytime too soon as it's the best game I've ever played, but some day. Maybe after Summer.

It's a good port. None of that FF7 port DRM bullshit, the character models have been touched lightly, Desktop inputs have been taken into account as in you can click on where you want to go. Random encounters can be turned off in you really want to. Cutscenes are also sharper now.
Two things that are its bad sides: Menus are xbox hueg because it was a port from mobile to PC and static backgrounds have not been touched because they no longer have the original 3d models to render them from.

FF9 in particular, more than any other numbered Final Fantasy reads like a fairy tale. The leads are a wandering rogue and a curious princess, and the world is just as whimsical. Overall the game difficulty is easy and you should be able to get through fine even if you're unused to JRPGs.
Even with the updated textures the graphics are dated though, and the style might make it harder to play if you don't have nostalgia for the series compared to FF7 for example since you'll be seeing "bad PS2 graphics" instead of "good PS1 graphics". It's also a lot slower than most games these days.
I highly recommend it if you can see past the age though, at its time it was something you could call a flawless game and the story will hold up for years with how magical everything is.

DWII is kind of easy, but VIII honestly was pretty challenging, I found myself having to train and experiment with new movesets a lot to kill certain bosses (which I love), but if FF9 is "easy" then it might not be a good place to jump in

in that case emulate 1, 4, 5 or 6. those are the best examples of old final fantasy. don't play 9 before at least one of those. it's not the biggest deal, the plots aren't actually connected but you will enjoy 9 a lot more if you understand the callbacks.

For old-school FF I think some weird DS versions ended up ported onto steam and I hated how they looked. Just emulate them, they're like 2 megabytes each. FF4 had a fantastic PSP remake, pic related.
7 is on steam and it's pretty much the PS1 version with higher resolutions. Hope you like lego people.

The one on steam is a port of the DS version that looked like an N64 game. Ruins the atmosphere. Then again I'm just autistic.
For 6 I think every version that made it to the west was gimped in some way but the snes version was the least of four evils. It's the typical contrarian-favorite FF, kinda like how /v/ convinces itself MGS2 was the best in the series. Maybe not so much anymore since it's just been so fucking long since the days when FF7 was mlp-tier unavoidable across the internet so 6fags don't feel as triggered anymore.

1 is dated.
2 was bad.
3 was bad.
4 was great and a good example of old FF.
5 was okay and a little weird, maybe play it if you really liked 1 and/or 4.
6 was great and a good example of old FF.
7 was great and a good example of modern FF.
8 was like the 5 of new FF; play it if you like the other ones. Not worth starting on.
9 was square throwing us a bone and letting us see old FF in 3D for one game.
10 was great imo and I wouldn't even be opposed to someone starting with it.

Why wasn't I playing this when I was 10 like I should have been.I actually didn't have many video games until my teens. First game was Spyro followed by Pokemon, or maybe the other way around, I forget. Probably around 2004/5 era I started building a decent game library but by then I was 15/16.
