Everybody has their own opinions on which ones are better or worse but really most are the same. I'd probably advise against anything after X as your first though. it is a gem, but obviously you have to get used again to the bad graphics and the slow paced fighting mechanics.
you can speed up atleast in new versions.

In a way, I think she was a good character.
Her character flaws, choices, and crushing on some bad boy made her real. Women act like impulsive children all the time, especially teenage girls.
Too much of the time JRPG love interests are too pure or perfect garbage and you just know they're perfect fits for the main character, but it left room for Rinoa's character to grow. Too bad her character growth didn't change her much at all.

It has its issues though. The magic system is a hot mess. The junction system is broken and exploitable. The draw system is addicting and fun however but part of the problem because its tied to magic and junction. The scaled enemy leveling is an issue as well.
It has issues but its still great. If you want a more balanced fr then 7 and 6 and 5 are the ways to go. 8 has a special place in my heart though
