Smash and MK8 offer no incentives to keep playing anymmore whatsoever anymore now that DLC for both games are done, yet there are still an abundance of players. Why? Because they find the game replayable and fun enough to play more and more. Or in the case of smash, they enjoy the game and want to get better at it, so the "incentives" aren't offered by the game, but by the player's own motivation to continue playing. Plus there aren't a lot of dedicated online multiplayer games from the Wii U to choose from anyways.

Smash and Mario Kart HAD DLC though. And there is variety in Smash's online play to keep players coming back. The only difference between regular battle and ranked in pokken is one of them doesn't give you the option to fight the same opponent more than one time.
