Animal Crossing is 15 years old today!
The question is, will it get more celebration than Metroid?
There's seriously people in this board who think New Leaf was a grinding shallow game.
When any other AC game that's not HHD or AF is also a grinding shallow game. AC games are for relaxing and distress sessions. There's nothing about action or challenges in this game. Seriously, if you think it's shallow and grinding, then the AC games are not for you.
Also, sorry for the reply, OP. I just wanted to get something off from my chest. Congrats for the series.

AC on the Gamecube was anything but shallow.

He's going for the N64 release date. What are you talking about?

No?
Animal Crossing first came out for the N64 in April, 2001.

I'm sorry, but while I think it was a good game, the only thing GC has going for is the great dialogue.

Grinding is fine enough. The issue is there's too much RNG bullshit with waiting for PWP to randomly unlock, which is a no-no when the whole draw of the Mayor system is having more control over the customization of your town. Past games had more solid goals to slowly work towards, NL is somewhat more waiting for the game to decide to let you do something. And some of what does have set goals has larger wait gates for no real reason.
Not to mention the dialogue is the worst in NL and character interactions overall have barely advanced since the original still even after twelve years.
They'll announce the Wii U one next Nintendo Direct.
