What makes Neptunia bad? I'm playing the PS4 version and there's nothing that I'm experiencing that makes it horrible. The only complaint I have is that not all of it is voiced. It's just weird that some story parts are voiced while others aren't.
It so far has a pretty cool story, with being transported to a forsaken world, then needing to help it out. The battle system is pretty good with all the combos and links characters can do. I'm assuming there's going to be more links and combos when I get more characters. I like the voice acting, and wish there was more of it. It runs pretty smoothly, the music isn't bad at all, heck I'll even put it as good.
I honestly can't find any real hard evidence that it's a horrible game.

When you get down to it there is no skill involved, the challenge just comes from the AI suddenly flipping a switch on the HP and Damage and forcing you to either grind or blow items. Probably the most grind infested game I've ever played, especially towards the post game Colosseum shit

It's just a shit JRPG where you mash to get a big number to pop up. The writing is throwaway generic anime trash with epic references in place of actual comedy, the characters are throwaway generic anime trash, the voice acting is cringeworthy anime trash (coming from a man who loves denpa), the gameplay in general is a 'big number treadmill', the battle system is shallow as fuck and does not require any thinking or skill to win, the assets are reused to a hilarious degree, the music is mediocre and forgettable (and at one point I think they ripped off Daisuke Ishiwatari's music, which is sad), the graphics are slick in style for what it is but it runs like shit, the animations are really poor too.
Because it's babby's first JRPG, with no real substance or heart behinds any of it.
It's not just kusoge, it's kusoge that sells due to anime girls.

Yes and no. Neptunia had 3 phases.
The original is unredeemable shit. Just look up gameplay.
Then there's the Victory (and Mk2 to a smaller degree) that lasted for those 2 games and the 3 remakes. They pretty much made 5 games one after the other that are all literally the same. I played the remake of the first one and liked it, but the moment I started the second, I realized I really didn't want to play literally the same game with worse characters.
Now there's the V-II phase, and honestly half of the game is still Victory, and the other half is personally worse.

The first 3 games were remade with the 3rd game's engine and put on Vita/PC so it's a lot of people's first impressions. The first one plays entirely different other than still being turn based and has different maps. 2&3 improved upon one another and reused like 2 levels, then 4 created newer larger ones and borrowed a couple.
In all the games though, they rendered one map then close off doors, mirror it, or block an area to make it look different.

V-II's basic battle system is so much better than all the games with victory based battle system
It adds so much more variety to your attacks utilizing combo traits instead of standard guard break and power attacks that mk2 introduced. Not one of my characters have the same button combinations in their attacks, except Uni and K-Sha because they're my EXE drive meter builders.
EXE Drive isn't something cheap that you build up prior to big fights for easy win since it doesn't carry outside a fight anymore. In some cases. using the right characters with consistent critical hits and maybe ele damage, it heavily out damages all EXE skills out there.
There are problems with V-II though.
Unfortunately, HDD isn't so great, and Next Form is pointless. Not because of mk2 where you could only be transformed for one turn most of the time, but the neglegible stats that you get from doing so. Also takes 1 EXE bar per trans.
Parts break is also poorly implemented. Wasted potential really. You're taking out already 75% ~ 90% of the base HP of an enemy before you can parts break.
