You can, BUT you WILL be very, very lost.
For starters, MGS5:Ground Zeroes is MGSV's first chapter, and a separate game at that. GZ on the other hand is a direct sequel to Peace Walker, which again was a sequel to MGS3.
tl;dr: Just get PS3 + MGS Legacy Collection, and play the games in release order: MGS1-4, PW, GZ, TPP.

MGS 5 takes place in 1984, so just read everything before it.
If anything, you'll be disappointed about the story if you've previously played the other games. The gameplay is pretty fun though, at least for a metal gear game. The older ones are super clunk compared to it.
