I kind of agree with OP, although I never personally do it myself, I feel like guides are cheating. Asking friends however, as long as it's a minor thing and as long as they found it themselves without using a guide, I feel is okay. /v/ is in a strange position, as asking you guys doesn't count as either guide nor friend. It's better than asking a guide, but still bad imo OP.I personally have a gaming note book and write down the position of locked doors/items which I want to go back and explore in case I forget later on. I believe in the first Dark Souls after placing the lord vessel it will show you where all the orange fog gates were, indicating where you're supposed to go. Even so, I had a note telling me that I could keep those places in the back of my mind. With Dark Souls in particular, I like to note down what certain NPCs have said, to make sure I understand their will properly. They also give you tips on where to go.Anybody else do this?

Go to the woods kill the hydra and then go into the cave behind the hydra and kill the gold crystal golem. Then go all the way back to the Duke's archive and kill the first crystal golem for an amulet. Then go all the way back to the woods into the cave behind the waterfall.

I do agree, but I don't feel like it's as bad. Usually it'll just come up in conversation. The only time I've done it is in Bloodborne. My friend wanted to summon me in so we could PvP, when I went to his world he had some bitchin' cannon. I was all like "what the fuck, where did you find that thing" and he said "in the forest" or someshit, that's a big enough clue I know, but I don't feel like it was too bad of a question.

The only way to get to oolacile is to go back to an area you have no reason of going back to 3 times and checking a place you might have already checked and saw that there was nothing.
Or you could read a guide and just get the fucking amulet and beat up the crystal guy.
