No it didn't. 4 was a great game that influenced the market and gave us games like Dead Space.
5 and Capcom killed the franchise. They could've easily adjusted 4 to a more horror focus with 5 or kept it as it was and the series would've been fine, but instead they went for an action focus with co-op in 5.
Also, Zero is terribly mediocre, even bordering on bad.

It's a similar deal with Lords of Shadow. Both 1 and 2 were ok games, but they sure as fuck weren't Castlevania (which makes sense since the first game wasn't even a Castlevania game to begin with, it got rebranded by Konami because they thought it would sell more).
