Open world could mean that, to me simply means it will have more SHIT to do than the original. I'm not a time trial person and in the first game had basically nothing else to do once you beat it except for time trials. At least now there will be new routes and stuff to explore. I suppose it's true that the open world will likely hurt the level design, but there are still going to be linear sequences within the game. Level design is one thing, but freedom and creativity are another, and having an excessively designed level robs the player of any freedom to experiment in a lot of cases. It was super frustrating in the original when I found the obviously "correct" route through a level and felt punished for taking any kind of an alternative just for fun. That said, I share all your worries.

I don't know how I feel about a level/progression system. Given that it's canonically a prequel, I'm fine with the idea that Faith is learning and progressing to advance moves, but it puts a hamper on speedrunners.

That being said, this video in the OP was hard to watch because the player clearly doesn't know LB from LT and only managed to do the soft landing maybe two times out of the dozen.

In a game like this? I'll tell you what I want. I want a large and dense hub world with a decent number of also large, and also dense SEMI-LINEAR (meaning there's a start point, and maybe multiple end points with varied branching or crossing paths throughout) levels within that hub. The hub can have collectibles (but not so many that they are just padding out hours of play time) and it should have secrets, and it should have people to talk to, and story to follow. The levels should have cutscene at the beginning, and at the fucking end, and NEVER IN THE MIDDLE. I fucking HATE having a level in a parkour game get interrupted by a fucking cutscene. This is pretty much all I want in a mirror's edge game. I'm okay with all the mechanics otherwise as they are. I don't even really care about no guns.

The fact that all they ever give you to DO in the cities is open a little treasure box, kill the same 4 guards, follow 2 dudes, or assassinate a guy? I like the futurist designs, but way too much cutscenes/pseudo cutscenes with stupid story. Too much linear stuff where you watch scripted shit happen. I recall the original's first level being much more hands on. Gameplay looks OK, but the level design seems to have suffered a bit from the open world treatment, the first's looked better, even during the intro mission. Health bars on the guards are disconcerting.Graphics don't look good, but the alasing makes it look like the game is not on the highest settings.

This shit still annoys me, because it's not like ME was that difficult to control anyway. Played like any other parkour platformer basically, but in the first person. And the level design was always open for alternate routes to be found.

In the first game you get more air by jumping off of 'steps' made by something at knee height like a crate or bench, next to something a bit taller like a railing or a bigger crate.
