If somebody is stealing your assets and using them to grab customers from you, there's a pretty clear decision that needs to be mad.

Higher pop than any one given server from retail, and most of them would be people who would not have been subbed to retail anyways. Assuming a 50% retention rate, 6-7k at all times is still obnoxiously high pop, and its not like blizz has to put literally any effort in.

Before this, blizzard has been well aware of a general interest in playing the game before it went to shit, but the actual numbers involved from a business standpoint have not been clearly presented. An entirely new server with at least 5000 new subs is fairly substantial, even if they make all their jewprofits from cash shop and rng card games now.
A petition of 100k shows at least the interest being present in numbers that would produce a notable profit for almost 0 effort.

The people that played on those servers were more than likely not subbed to WoW because they don't like the game in its current state, which is why they're playing on older expansions. If Blizzard pulled something like Old School Rune Scape, they would see more people subbing to them again because its what over a million people want. They are essentially throwing away millions of potential dollars.

What I'm saying is that they aren't grabbing any customers from Blizzard. Most, if not all of the people playing on those legacy servers weren't subbed to WoW, including myself. They were liiterally losing nothing by keeping them up, and could gain so much if they just hired the team into Blizzard and charged a monthly fee.

when looking at bot statistics in BG's and the amount of nodes farmed by bots, a rough estimate is that at least 15-20% of the 'active' players are botting for honor/rep/skills and aren't actively playing the game. That leaves about 680 000 active and 'dedicated' players in Europe.
there are too many retail servers, but Blizz keeps them because they want to milk realm transfer payments, they game world is too large, the capitols are too decentralized and to add to that, cross-realms has killed community cohesion entirely.
Retail is literally dead, and when you compare 150 000 active Nost players to 680 000 active retail players in Europe on a PRIVATE server which requires you to use a torrent program and edit text files to even join, you realize why Blizzard shut them down.
