Probably, but from "extensive research" there's also some sort of crafting/upgrading system aswell so i guess you can manage with no cash.

This is the laboratory. You can use this to unlock new weapons and items from weapon crates that you can find on missions. You need to use analisies chips to gradually unlock the weapon.

Both bosses I've tried (behind the red-flagged areas) are stupidly overpowered. Is there any easier way to take them down or is it just fucked?

Mediocre, I've only tried the black haired chick and the fighting is clunky. Dungeon designs are better once you reach level 15 but they're also stuck with stupidly tanky bossfights that can one-shot you.

This story is terrible

It's pretty dodgy right now, luckily most of the issues should be solveable via adjustments to controls and balancing. Doubt this'll ever be anything special though, but if it was ironed out it'd be worth it as a timesink sorta game. It's worth noting that I don't think anybody has defeated the bosses (the proper bossfights are behind the red flags), I feel they're stupidly OP even when a full set of players, geared up with heals, faces them.

There's a chance for them to redeem some of the basic issues like control and balancing, and the mission layouts start to get interesting by the time you reach level 15, but it'll take a while to provide each character with a different set of moves. I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but it would be nice if "decrypt code" meant more than "holding A". They have the Gamepad, they could have made some simple minigame to decrypt the code or whatever instead of just holding A.
