FFXIII merely follows in the footsteps of X. The only real difference is that people were blown away by the graphics and (terrible) voice acting in FFX to the point that the shittiness of the game didn't even register while FFXIII wasn't particularly spectacular visually compared to the rest of the market.
X and XIII have the same structure and the same awful straight line progression where there's nothing to explore.

X is at least better for having more player input in how the characters and equipment progress mechanically as well as plenty of sidetracks to distract the player along said linear road. XIII tried to ape X's structure but completely missed what made it worth playing over past the first time.

X also gave an actual reason as to why you're railroaded along a linear path. The story literally has you going through a straight line up until makalania, but even then it's just a no-outlet turn that puts you back at makalnia and back on a straight path.

The voice acting in 10 wasn't bad. The voice direction & the attempt at lip syncing was, not the acting, and even then it was only Yunas character which had these problems.

Fair enough, the voices weren't bad, but how they were acted was and a few of the lines seemed rushed. Wakka had the islander played up too far, Kimhari was a good voice for the character i guess, but i didnt like it. Tara strong was Tara Strong, i wish she did better with that rather than Cutesy voice again. Auron/Lulu/Jecht were perfect, Tidus was great when he was narrating, and hit or miss during gameplay. Yuna was just bland.
