But is it a good game?

Dear god I hope it will. But I think I'm not too happy from the gameplay we're given.
But I'll let you decide, I'm currently following this playthrough right now.

My inner faggot is trying not to think of Master Chief.
>>
>>333913069
It looks really cool to me but I also haven't played Ratchet since the PS2 era.
What are the main complaints?
>>
>>333913591
Weapons got less gimmicky and situational and became more formulaic, the thought-out in design of having weapons made for different situations like the taunter or the visibomb are replaced with standard shotgun, machine pistol, and bomb-type weapons, it becomes more of a chaotic killing-spree, some weapons being more overpowered than others give less incentive to use them.

In-game cutscenes are just poorly-synced dialogue with muppet-tier facial animations. The cuts between shots are just mugshots of their expressionless faces and pointless scenery. Look into Part 4 in the talk between Skid's agent and Ratchet, you'll get the gist.

HP and weapons level up, rather than the 4-8 hit HP system and perfectly usable arsenal from beginning to end, native to R&C1.

There are some anons that complain of if 30fps/1080p but I could care less.

They implemented a card drop system for added buffs to weapons, bolts/raritanium pick up rate, and the RYNO, rather being just a high-price purchase.
>>
>>333913591
You could argue that the Ratchet and Clank reboot is modernized and casualized to market and target for a younger demographic than the original Teen audience, but I've played and beaten the original trilogy before I was even 10. So I see no real reason to dumb down the experience. In fact, I think this is rather bad game design and lazy.
>>
Does it have skill points and cheats?

>>
>>333915364
Then what would you consider the major improvements that made the game infinitely better? I'll say I don't mind the level-up system for weapons and health but everything else are "mechanics" for added padding for an otherwise already good gameplay experience.
>>
>>333915682

Strafing, for starters.
Automatic switch to Swingshot instead of equipping it manually.
Additional Quick Select wheels.
D-Pad Quick Select.
Levitator.
>>
>>333916049
>Strafing, for starters.
>Automatic switch to Swingshot instead of
>Additional Quick Select wheels.
All good, it makes most tasks less of a hassle every game.
>D-Pad Quick Select.
I find this pretty useless when we already have quick select and the fact we can double tap to switch the previous weapon. We don't need another option to switch to another firearm.
>Levitator.
The Levitator segments in Going Commando were usually frustrating for me, I find the glider segments more amusing and less of a hassle.
>>
The hoverboard racing minigame is a fucking joke now. What the fuck.
https://youtu.be/y12CuAUYk2k?t=6m36s
>>
>>333916995

Hoverboarding was never difficult.
>>
>>333917245
They're were more challenging than this if I recall. Especially the one on Kalebo III.
>>
>>333912408
All we know is that the game holds your hand like never before (everything is close by, hints are non-stop), and in-engine cutscenes look like shit.
>>
>>333917631

They really weren't. Play them again sometime.

The only major difference is that running into a bomb in the remake breaks your speed instead of knocking you out and respawning.
>>
Ratchet and Clank has been stale as fuck for a long time, every game plays exactly the same.
>>
>>333911402
Are these pre-rendered, or in-engine? If the latter, then this is probably one of the more visually impressive games on the console. But I doubt it's in-engine considering the heavy use of PBR.
>>
>>333917631
The minigame was e-z af. It was pulling off the crazy tricks that was mildly challenging.
>>
>>333916586
The new jetpack is based more on the one on Into the Nexus, which is way better to control than the Levitator and let's you shoot.
>>
>>333917631
They never were. You're blinded by nostalgia; They were just as slow and simplistic as these.
>>
>>333918007
That's really strange too. Most games from the same series play radically different from one another.
>>
>>333911402
Ugh, skipped the new game screen. I'd like to know if there's a hard mode or something. Otherwise, I might as well get a Future title from the bargain bin. I wish they would've remade Deadlocked instead.
>>
>>333918262

All For One, Full Frontal Assault, Secret Agent Clank, and to a lesser extent, Deadlocked, all tried to shake up the formula and were received with mixed reception.

>>333918430

There's a hard mode.
>>
Alright anons, name your favorite:

>game

>weapon

>OST

>for those who play ACiT, radio station

>planet and from which game

>which game would you love to see a remake after
>>
>>333918262
A perfect example for shaking it up every time is Mario or Zelda, each game can be told apart immediately by the graphics, if not a video of the gameplay. Mario gets shit for "rehashing" but play through the same map with Sunshine controls is completely different than playing with Galaxy controls, which is completely different than playing with 3D World controls, and so on and so forth. The games, even if they were visually identical, feel different.

I don't get that from Ratchet and Clank, or most of Sony's exclusives. (haven't played Sly yet though)

>>333918571
>All For One, Full Frontal Assault, Secret Agent Clank, and to a lesser extent, Deadlocked, all tried to shake up the formula and were received with mixed reception.
Aren't all those besides Deadlocked just spin-offs?

>>
>>333919165

Depends on how well it sells.
>>
>>333919165
That all depends of the movie. Good reception, they got a good incentive to make the games alone, otherwise I don't think they'll have the guts to see if the video games will do just as well.
>>
>>333919224
I haven't played past ACiT, and there was no online play in the Future trilogy. But there was a leaderboard ranking in ACiT.

Batalia Rail Grinding, Joba Megacorp Games, Koros 1, On The Prowl, The Grinding Chase, half of Size Matters (seriously, why does that shitty game has such good music?) Cannot think of any track from TOD, need to play that game many more times.

Have not played YET.

Barlow, Shaar, Mukow.

Does anyone know what planets you go to? All the levels have basically been the same layout with a few tweaks but they skipped Eudora entirely. Umbris too although that could still be later with Qwark's heel turn. I'm currently at Gaspar now. Not sure what you mean, but the PS2 version slows down when there are a lot of enemies/effects on screen. The movie game already has mentions of the Protopet. Wouldn't be surprised if they have plans for GC already. But I hope they continue the main series alongside it. I do want to see what happens after Into the Nexus and if Ratchet finds that family Clank is helping him search for.

Allow me to summarize it and make it more obvious. They made him look even more like a cat, WHICH IS THE DEFAULT CUTE LOOK OF ANYTHING EVER. The improved graphical power allows artists to give more detail to Ratchet
The original game had his fur looking more like skin with different colors on it, meanwhile the new design lets you see individual hairs of fur
The eyes are probably what make the biggest detail difference, the originals had a more cartoony looking style with flat green pupils on flat white eyes compared to the new shiny eyes that look bigger

>Only Going Commando had unique enemies on every planet
untrue, e.g. Joba outside of the arena and Yeedil are 100% rehashes, and many planets only introduce a new enemy or two. There's also a shitload of reskins w/ slightly different movesets, e.g. bladeballs and those four-legged bots.

>>333925506
Tools had a more diverse roster, but also had more planets so it kinda evens out. There are a couple planets w/ unique fauna, but for the most part it's either Drophyds, pirates, Tachyon's species or Kerchu. Not that different from having Agorians or Nefarious troops in 80% of the planets, although there's more variety in enemy types / models compared to ACiT.

>That's true, but in each level there was also a unique enemy or too. Like the Yeti.
Again, often not the case. The two Zeldrin levels, the Phoenix and Mylon come to mind.

I do agree ACiT, Nexus and ToD to a lesser extent recycled a lot more. I'm just being an autist about it.

I miss the flaming hell duck too..

Veldin
Novalis
Aridia
Kerwan
Gaspar
Rygar
Batalia (fused with Hoven)
Quartu (Mixed very slightly with Orxon)
Pokutaru
Kalebo III
A new Asteroid Base (similar to Glimik Base but not quite)
The Deplanetizer (Which is located on Umbris' orbit at the endgame.)
>>
>>333925962
I like how a third of Quartu is you shooting at Mr. Zurkons, culminating in a boss fight against a giant Mrs. Zurkon. And by "like" I mean I hate it.
I'm just glad this is the last R&C thing TJ Fixman will work on. Perhaps the Zurkon meme will finally die, or at least it won't get out of hand like in this game.
>>
>>333925938
>Not that different from having Agorians or Nefarious troops in 80% of the planets,
Except Agorians were only on one planet. (And the flashback thing or whatever)

All the other planets are just Nefarious troops for the most part.

>>333925938
ACIT recycles far more than TOD.

Can't say about Nexus, haven't played it, but I wouldn't doubt it since it was a budget game.
>>
>>333926183

There's 3 enemy groups in Nexus (Thugs 4 Less, Nethers, and various fauna) but it's less noticeable since the game is short.
>>
>>333920980
Blame the movie and the game having to fit the movie's plot; Drek gets backstabbed by Nefarious, turned into a sheep by his Sheepinator and then thrown in a shuttle towards an exploding planet.

Drek wanted to build his planet for cash, but Nefarious wanted to use a planetary alination event to make a chain reaction and destroy the entire galaxy.

>>333922012
By the cutscenes on OP's posts, it's movie Qwark set after the events of the movie.
>>
>>333926115
>I like how a third of Quartu is you shooting at Mr. Zurkons, culminating in a boss fight against a giant Mrs. Zurkon. And by "like" I mean I hate it.
wut?
>>
Did Nefarious sound different in R&C ACIT to anyone else?
He also wasn't as funny

>>333920980
>>333924953
Also is it just me or did ACIT have bad writing compared to the others? One of the first jokes in ACIT is literally a poop joke.
It wasn't great in TOD either.

I blame the E10 rating.
>>
>>333926057
Batalia wasn't fused with Hoven, it just took its snowy climate. The layout is pretty much the same as the original Batalia, including that Gold Bolt behind the mountain.

>>333926183
>ACIT recycles far more than TOD.
Hence why I said "to a lesser extent". It still recycles a lot, though, compared to previous entries. The pirate levels may as well just be copy-and-paste.

Agorians are on three planets out of... ten or so? I don't remember.
There are a couple other planets which never feature Nefarious troops at any point, and one that only does during a story sequence. I do agree it's an issue, mind you.

Nexus has an enemy you can literally find on every planet you visit. Aside from that, yeah, its length kind of explains (doesn't justify) the lack of variety.

>>333926324
I think my issue with them is that each group only has like 3-4 different enemy types. But yeah, not as much of an issue as in ACiT.

>>333926471
Remake Quartu, not the original one.
>>
>>333926638
Blame Fixman.
>>
A shame about Drek, but everything else sounds like it might be okay.
>>
Just noticed that this game is being sold at a budget price, like half of normal price. I think that this is just a shitty movie tie in.
>>
>>333927685
2/3 of normal price for 2/3 of a normal R&C game. Sounds reasonable.
If you think that's shitty having seen some gameplay of it, that's fine, but it's not really related to the price or the movie.
>>
>>333919721
Don't listen to him it's longer than Quest for Booty, though it's pretty crap. Feels like an incredibly lazy shovelware title.
>>
>>333920980
I like Nefarious but come the fuck on he's incredibly overdone now, and this is Drek's game.
>>
Well, this franchise is dead now.
Thanks a fucking lot Sony.
>>
>>333923217
Jesus Christ what a complete piece of shit that was, and the robots didn't fucking listen to you half the time either. I thought the Trilogy itself would be better but only marginally so.

Idol Minds need to be shot.

When you see what they did to Drek's voice and personality you'll think what they did to him as an endgame boss is the least of the shit that they've done to this horrible excuse for a reboot.
Seriously, even DmC was better than this piece of shit.

>>333927880
I wouldn't say "lazy" per se. The weapon upgrade system, for example, is the most fleshed out in the series.
I think it's just that it was made by the B-team, and it shows. I think there's a definite lack of talent at IG nowadays, compared to the PS2 era. Just look at all that shovelware they keep churning out.

>>333928006
It's no more dead than it was during All 4 One and FFA, anon. In fact, I'd argue it hasn't been this alive since Tools of Destruction, what with the movie tie-in, the stellar amount of preorders and all.
I do agree this game looks like IG hastily reanimated the original game's corpse and paraded it around a-la Weekend at Bernie's, though.

>>333928362
I like him 2bh. I just don't like how he was dispatched in a fucking cutscene.

Note that I will only list the things I don't like about it (e.g. idgaf about armor)

>12 planets
>only 2 Gadgetron weapons (one actually a Grummelnet reskin), rest is all Grummelnet weapons + the Bouncer (preorder DLC haha)
>no arena
>dull writing, but the characters won't ever shut up, just like in Nexus
>no Drek boss fight
>half of the ingame cutscenes genuinely look like they've been procedurally generated
>Zurkon meme game too strong
>most of the original content looks drab, the collecthaton area being an obvious exception
>bosses are unchallenging as fuck

Oh yeah I loved Ratchet going YEEEHHHAAAAAAAWWWWW every two fucking seconds because Insomniac just gave up after All 4 One and just reused assets, trying to cater to 6 year olds. What happened to him just being silent and having the humour for the cutscenes?
>>
>>333929346
I can't PROVE you wrong but I've been playing through them and I had way more of a blast w/ 1 and 3.
I think the issue with 2 is that it introduces a lot of cool new elements, but it still doesn't really know how to handle them, resulting in stuff like weapons becoming obsolete as the lowliest of enemies become giant damage sponges, or the nightmare that was Grelbin.
Also, subjectively speaking, the levels feel so lifeless compared to 1. Really, 1 was the only one where the levels consistently felt like actual places and not vidyagaem obstacle courses a la Mario Galaxy.

>>333929692
Uuuuuh they only reused voice lines for FFA if I'm not mistaken. This one has a fucking immense amount of original, context-relevant voice acting, so it's not a matter of reusing assets, it's just a very questionable design choice. I'm not even sure 6 year olds would care that much about all this talking, considering easier difficulties are very generous with on-screen prompts and pointers.
>>
>>333927880
it wasnt lazy in the slightest, especially the jetpack planet which is one of the best ratchet levels. The game just should of been a full length one.
>>
I just replayed FFX and now Ratchet won't stop sounding like Tidus, aaaaah
>>
Ha ha, I get it.
It's so dramatic and full of cliches because Qwark is narrating it!

I'm getting a massive feeling of this game being rushed as shit to meet deadlines
They could have done more with this game but had to prioritize meeting deadlines, and it doesn't help that Insomniac's splitting developers in the studio in many different directions to be making so many games at once
While I don't think this will be the "DEATH OF RATCHET AND CLANK", I don't have high expectations of this game or the film
>>
>>333932083
It was ready in like summer 2015 anon. I think both the game and the movie were, but the movie was pushed back to spring 2016 and the game had to follow suit.
There are many issues with this game, but it's not about it being rushed. It's probably just a lack of budget, talent or both. Betting on budget being the main offender, but it's evident IG has lost a lot of talented people over the years.
>>
>>333932518
Did they polish it up at least after the delay? I remember the same thing happened to X Men Origins and they polished up the game in the mean time to the point where it's actually a really good game, especially compared with the fucking awful movie.
>>
>>333918821
>game
2, 3 and Deadlocked are all on the same level for me.

>weapon
Bouncer, the flail from Deadlocked

>OST
1 and 2

>planet
Obani Gemini and Obani Draco from 3

>remake
I don't need them. They still hold up. I'd like them to remake some of the spinoffs to be more like the PS2 games, even though I'm not one for wanting more and more rehashes and usually support larger gameplay changes in sequels.
>>
>>333911402
Well, I got some mixed feelings about this.
It looks stale as fuck, for a game.
The movie however, I dunno. It might be good I guess.
>>
>>333924351
The slowdown in Deadlocked had a very pleasant weight to it though. It only happened when there was a lot of shit going on, like the Endzone mission, making you feel even more powerful. So it kinda worked out for Deadlocked in my opinion, even though it technically is a flaw.
>>
>>333933261
They did, or claimed they did at least.
I figure the Museum and the trading cards were things they added during that time, as they don't really feel like they were planned from the start. The cards work well at least.
It generally feels more polished than pretty much every PS3 R&C game, but it still has its fair share of glitches and weird behaviour, not to mention those in-engine dialogue cutscenes have no business looking that bad.

>>333933546
It's bound to feel stale, a lot of levels were ported almost verbatim and the original areas consist almost entirely of generic hallways and jetpack sections.
The movie's probably going to look like shit, as it was ready a year ago and even then it was done on a shoestring budget. Writing isn't by TJ Fixman apparently, so there's that.

>>333933653
I think it's fine as long as it's your weapons causing most of it, yeah.
It's inexcusable when it happens because of non-gameplay related reasons, though, e.g. Silox in Nexus.
>>
Compared to what good Ratchet and Clank games look like, it's pretty awful and shitty, but compared to the kinds of games we get nowadays, I think it's alright.
And it's far from the worst R&C title.
>>
>>333915241

Wait...

So its the game based on the movie, which is based on the 2002 game. And the story of this game is Qwarks retelling of the events that inspired an in-universe movie and game.

Was this perhaps directed by Abed from Community?
