Because I already got a DS4 way before the steam controller came out, and am used to it. Having a separated and raised d-pad is nice for platformers or emulation or suchlike.
Also cause I can connect them to my friend's PS4 since he doesn't have a full set.
Is the aiming really that nice on these?

I don't really use it for the aiming, I just use it because it's insanely versatile.
It has the advantage of being able to play literally every game in my Steam library, which is nice for when I just want to crash on my couch and play some Civ or FTL.
The aiming is pretty nice, though, once you get used to it. It has a higher skill ceiling than a controller, but also a higher skill floor.

technically, the touchpad has a higher precision level then a mouse. and the gyro does too. and you can utilize both in conjunction if yougit gud. having used a mouse for 15 years or so, i definitely feel most comfortable aiming with it - but ive used the steam controller fr almost 100 hours or so and im starting to prefer gyro+touchpad for shooters. ive hit a point where im getting effectively the same K/D ratio out of both slightly leaning towards mouse.
