The only serious issue you might have in this fight is the massive AoE attack she has, which admittedly, can kill you instantly without any kind of fire resist or if you have dogshit VIG.

I don't personally have a problem with this fight, but:

It's a sort of gimmick fight near the end of the game. The boss needs to be hit once at 3 vital points across the (large-ish) arena: Two at the left and right ends, and one in the middle, directly under it. The fight carries over progress, so if you hit one vital point and die, you only need to hit the other 2 every time you come in.

As it loses vital points, the floor gets large holes in it, and the boss attacks more frequently. The last center vital point requires you to make a jump across a large-ish gap onto a narrow platform, but the boss has very wide and unpredictable swings.

Essentially, it's very easy to get hit once and die, and it's hard to dodge hits.

The floor literally starts to wobble when it's about to collapse. This is literally fucking Mario 101. The AoE attack is by far the most bullshit thing in the fight simply because you have no idea if it'll kill you or not.

Easily the hardest fight on the entire series and the one which is most blatently unfair. It basically requires a summon and even then it's still hard as fuck.

It's only easier if you summon another human, though. If you summon NPCs the fight is actually harder because the HP of both bosses increases but the phantoms don't carry their own weight and die easily.

Nothing's "wrong" with BoC I suppose, the problem is that it's so different from other bosses that it takes many deaths to adjust. And then you leave with skills that won't help you in the rest of the game.

It's sort of a memorisation platformer boss based on safely moving from point to point. No actual fighting involved. And it finishes with a jump (jumping in Souls is not the easiest thing in the world).

it's a combination of not being a "real" fight, being at the end of a largely disappointing level, and pretty much any error ending up with you dying. it makes the floor fall out from underneath you and attacks almost the entire arena at once with huge sweeps, it comes down to 90% memory and 10% luck.

I honestly think that Stray Demon is supposed to like the Hellkite Drake, you're supposed to perceive it as a punishment / trap, not a boss. You can only kill it as a sort of easter egg.

Of course players don't usually see things in that way. It was a misunderstanding of player mindset.

Walk along the roots and be ready to roll/block the swipes. Literally all there is to the fight. I beat this shit on my second try on the first playthrough and it's piss easy to beat first try every other playthrough.

I really think huge dragons just generally don't work in these types of games, so it's unfortunate that they are part of the lore.

The problem with huge dragons is that if you're supposed to fight them normally, you'll always be thinking "why isn't this dragon really trying to kill me"?

Huge dragons have such obvious tactics available that would absolutely destroy a humanoid. And one of the best things about Souls is that the bosses actually seem like they want you dead.

Hellkite really bothers me in terms of design. There are so many tactics to use, and every one of them is tedious and janky, no matter what level you are.

The game seems to be saying "aha! you can snipe him from below the bridge!" except that it takes five million arrows.

They're not exactly "Huge", but Kalameet and Sinh were pretty great boss battles.

They were both somewhat injured as well, which could add reason to why they can't kill you instantaneously.

In honesty, half the bosses in these games could kill you in one hit by brutally dismembering the player, there has to be some level of fun/realism balance when it comes to game design with bosses.

Really though, there's no justification for shit like dragon god or ancient dragon, they had all the opportunity to make them actually decent fights.

Yeah, honestly, I really don't the developers really intended you to ever bother fighting him, considering both how you have to fight as well as what you get for doing so. Even something like the Hydra prior to the DLC still offered an NPC with story, items, and spells to get from for defeating it. Hellkite just gives you an easier path to the Sunbro covenant.

I think Kalameet is pretty good as a boss

He gives a lot of opportunities for attack while still presenting a threat.

None of his attacks are bullshit, and he has a large variety of them, with several of them giving the player various ways of getting ready to damage him

His general design is fantastic, the weird bird like beak and glowing orange eye along with the striking black and sleek body is both brutal and grandiose, it fits in with his role in the dlc quite well, and suits the area he's in.

I don't understand why anyone would say he's a bad boss.

That being said, I do agree sinh is a great boss.

not random. you can see the arms move before they begin the sweeping attack. the floors always collapse in the exact same spot, and they even rumble and shake before collapsing. also the arena is large enough that you can stand near the back and never be hit.

Playing through DaS again the other day, I do agree BoC is a terrible boss.

It's awful in every way, even the music didn't really add much to the fight, and instead cemented the oddness of it in a game of standout designs and bosses.

I did all the DS2 dlc for the first time today.
All the final bosses were easy with my build.
Just shoved a grand lance up their asses. With Leo Ring it did tons of damage.

If you're lucky or read a guide, sure.
Going in blind means at least a couple of deaths figuring out to kill the globes. Then making the jump is practically random because of the shitty arm timings. Then throw in some more because firestorm can hit you while you're breaking branches underneath. And, to top it off, the bug deals damage too.

I don't know, I felt like due to what level Jade Face was when you fought him the second time that the game was telling you that you had to at least be level 74 or higher to stand a chance against Egil so I starting killing Mechon until then so Yaldadabado went down easy. I had a tougher fight against Egil due to using Shulk,Reyn and Fiora all the time since I liked them the most. Should of known that in RPG's you're never to fight without a dedicated healer.
