My guess is that a medium sized project would have been better from a creative perspective - instead of holding a board meeting with stakeholders every time they wanted to do a off color joke, it could just be a couple of developers. Of course, a game with as much pull as Banjo would eventually turn into a bigger thing.

Exactly. There's no point of Banjo 3 if the original staff isn't working on it. Take a look at RCT World, a game being created by a new studio. It's a piece of shit compared to Planet Coaster, a game that's miles better and being developed by the makers of RCT 3.

They said they wanted to work with Rare in the future because they are still in the loop, still go down to Rare and give talks and advice to the younger staff, Chris still does the Killer Instinct VA. They said really excited for the direction Rare was taking because when they left, they were really unsure if the company was still going to be alive. But the guy who used to be studio director of Sumo Digital runs Rare now after Gregg said he didn't want to be running the company and they finally are making that Pirate game with Gregg's team.
