I played Gold as a kid and found a shiny Geodude, in that place where you come down from the final gym place back to the beginning town.
When I played Heartgold I found a shiny Geodude again in the exact same spot. And then another time on Heartgold when I decided to restart. Pretty weird.

As such, I didn't bother to farm for one, I just hacked in what I wanted and got to battling. Doing it that way also lets me test out odd strategies and builds without spending hundreds of hours doing so

I found a shiny Voltorb in Sapphire. Caught it, raised it to an Electrode. Loved that sonofabitch. I was borrowing the game from my friend though, and one day he asked for it back. I literally offered to buy a brand new game for him if he would let me keep his because I didn't want to give up my shiny. Of course he declined because he was the type of prick that didn't ever want anyone having anything nice.

Some shinies legit look baller, but the beauty of shinies always comes from random encounters, grinding for one ruins the story. When it comes to competitive I always hack in my shinies because fuck grinding stats and shiny.

Then Growlithe in Heartgold, which looks gold or piss colored depending on who you ask.

These are just the ones I know are legit, I have others that are obvious hacks.

Save in front of it and soft reset every time it isn't shiny. Having the shiny charm helps.
2 full odds 1/8000 whatever shinies, a Noctowl in Pearl and a Palpitoad in White.
In ORAS I got a Golbat at gen 6 odds of 1/4000. Phantump and Tailow dexnav'ing and like 3 feebas chain fishing. They're nice, but they don't mean nearly as much as the first 2. I wish GF hadn't upped the odds.
