Why does steam allow it's early access system be so horribly abused by every single dev that uses it
> dayz
> rust
> the forest
People should be allowed a refund if dead lines aren't made.
>>
>deadlines
what deadlines? what were the release dates for these games that weren't met?
>>
>>333861538
There were no deadlines. It was all ambiguous bullshit.
>>
>>333862004
so you bought into a game knowing well that it's final product and final release date was ambiguous and you want a refund? kill yourself, amigo
>>
Why do morons allow themselves to keep getting abused by the early access system?
If you're not happy with an unfinished product, don't fucking buy it.
>>
>>333862121
I never bought an early access game. It just seems like an abused system faggot.
>>
>>333862367
"it just seems" if you can't see the good that's come out of EA you're just not looking. Rust is a great Early Access title with big, frequent additions and a transparent dev team. Listing it in your OP just shows you're a brainless parrot of what /v/ tells you.
>>
>>333860810

That's why GOG's Games In Development is better since they vet the games and don't just plop them on there without a care.
>>
What the fuck is wrong with Rust? They update it weekly and it's the only good survival game like that anyways.
>>
>>333861538
Steam should enforce some deadlines.

The forest has been in early access for 2 years.
>>
>>333863253
Why should steam enforce deadlines?
>>
>>333860810
The forest dev releases consistant updates every month.

Rust is now completely playable and they add new additions every over week.

DayZ is shit

You choose to use bad examples
>>
The whole Early Access thing is a hit-or-miss thing. While the dev is giving you the option to buy or download the game in a (pre)Alpha/Beta stage and thus see if the game is going to be successful or if it's going to go down the shitter.

Various reasons could lead a game to become abandoned, such as death, family problems, or the dev not giving a shit anymore.

Still... I agree to the point that it's bullshit to release an Early Access game when it isn't going to be taken seriously or you're eventually going to get cucked. Such is the case of Starbound.

Bear in mind that the opposite holds true, too.

TL;Dr: If you have faith in the game and its devs, buy it. If you don't, why risk your bread?
>>
>>333860810
>rust
whats wrong with rust
>>
>>333863341
Because it is blatently taking the piss out of the option of releasing an unfinished game. there is no motivation for the dev to finish it anymore.
Same happened to besige.
>>
>>333863516
there's a lot more to motivate people to make their own games than just deadlines. you have some growing up to do, that's obvious.
>>
>>333860810
> developer puts game on steam
> people give devs money
> i dont understand why steam would want to make money
>>
Because it creates a platform for indie circlejerking dipshits.

Notice how undertale costs money wheras other indie games outside of the circlejerking are completely free except for donations.
>>
Rust is a very bad exemple
>>
If retards like you would simply stop giving the jews money then early access wouldn't be a problem.
>>
DiRT Rally
>>
>>333863898

This. People keep paying so devs keep putting out Early Access games.
>>
>>333863717
Something that kind of surprises me is that even though the audio sample ripoff is so notorious, Nintendo doesn't give the slightest shit.
>>
>>333863573
Are you being fucking retarded on purpose?

I'm talking about people taking the piss. not meeting deadlines.
2 fucking years. TWO FUCKING YEARS and barely any content has been added, there still isn't even anything to work towards, no end goal.
The start has you crash land and your kid gets kidnapped, the objective is obvious yet it's not possible. even now.
TWO WHOLE FUCKING YEARS

You are the retarded type of idiot that says this shit is okay.
They released early access because they spent all their time making it look nice and still haven't even made anything out of it.

Why the flying fuck should people not get a refund for a fucking tech demo and false promises?
>you have some growing up to do, that's obvious.
Nice arguement. Dipshit
>>
>>333863659
>Dev puts unfinished piece of shit on steam
>Promises to finish it but you can buy it not
>Never finishes it

Quit talking out your ass.
>>
>>333860810

You forgot Towns where the developer literally got bored with making the game and just up and quit.
>>
>>333860810
>People should be allowed a refund if dead lines aren't made.

How? Steam aren't going to refund you out of Gaben's pockets, and the dev would claim they can't afford to refund users. Attempting to force them would push them off Steam, and then the users won't get a refund or the game.
>>
>>333864064
Japan doesn't know indiedevs exist anon.
>>
>>333863516
>there is no motivation for the dev to finish it anymore.

The motivation is to gain further sales from people who'll only buy the final release, maximizing sales will be a stepping-stone to a future career in the industry.
>>
Honestly they are mostly screwing over themselves. No one is gonna want whatever Dean Hall's next game is.
>>
Those games are fine

Now complain about the VR wave of EA games and you are absolutely correct.
>>
>>333864535
Pretty much this.

Shit indie games are a cancer on the indie genre. Hopefully there will be more so that true indiedevs can go back to being obscure types coding together software line by line.
>>
>>333863516
>Besiege
I don't know why, but Besiege just has slow as fuck updates, but they're definitely still going.
>>
>>333862541
Rust is shit mate.
>>
>>333864467
japan had a healthy scene for what in the west would be called indie devs long before anywhere else.
>>
What's the current state of DayZ?

I haven't played since they started dicking around item spawn permanence or whatever the fuck it's called. Kinda gave up hope

Can you actually have decent firefights yet?
>>
>>333864839
Compare Japan's indie scene with the west and you can understand why nintendo doesn't know western indiedevs don't exist.

>>

Apparently some patch is going to hit this month with the framerate improvements they had on experimental.

If item spawns are fixed, nothing changes
>>
>>333864942
apparently 0.60 is coming in the next 2 weeks thats the new UI and new rendering tech they have shown a vid of framerates but i am waiting till see some user bench marks
>>
>>333864957
western indie scene is no different from japan's, with the exception of a tiny clique of incredibly well-promoted types who know the right people. it's why flavour of the month indie games are so incredibly bad compared to every other tier, for lack of a better word, of games. Where every other tier averages mediocre indie averages garbage.
>>
>>333864535
Double Fine straight up abandoned one of its EA games and everyone still sucks their dick and throws millions of dollars at them
>>
>>333864213
nobody is forcing you to buy them retard.
the fact that 1000's of people willingly buy these games means there is demand.

Its called capitalism u dumb commie
>>
The Forest got a big update like 5 days ago.
>>
>>333863573
Get off your high horse loser. You don't know what you are on about

full retard
Dayz has been taking the piss for 2 years now
>>
>someone else should protect me because I can't make informed decisions

OP is definitely a millennial
>>
>>333860810
Because gamers are retarded fucks who don't care. This is proven by them happily paying for unfinished games.
>>
>>333865170
If it was anything than Psychonauts 2 I doubt it would have been funded. They would have pull in more than 3.8 if it wasn't for all the shit Tim pulled.

I don't think its unreasonable to expect consumers to make their own decisions about whether a game meets their standards or not.

Also, customers can get a refund themselves just by clicking a few buttons.

This.

Never said I've purchased an early access game retard.
But I haven't in case it wasnt also immediately clear in this post as well.
>>
>>333865601
This. Psychonauts 2 is Double Fine's last chance to not fuck up an Tim knows it. They won't admit it, but if the Broken Age catastrophe happens with Psychonauts 2 then they're as good as bankrupt.
>>
>>333860810
>Why does steam allow it's customers to willingly get fucked by devs
>Why do devs fuck their customers when they blissfully ask to get fucked

Early Access is garbage. But if people want to play to beta test a product that has no guarantee to ever release, let them. If the product is worth buying on full release, you can buy it then. If its stinky garbage or gets abandoned, the only people harmed are the dumb chucklefucks who asked to be harmed by it.

Don't buy games based on the promised future.

Here's a new release that also is early access like wtf finish the game first.
>>
>>333868805
Did the same guy who made gmod towers make this game? Because they are pretty much carbon copys.
>>
>>333869274
Yeah they shut off GMOD tower's servers and released this game into early. Basically stand alone game in a newer engine.
>>
>>333860810
never coming out is a big problem but another problem is releasing a barebones 1.0 missing features and dumping the game is another problem

>have to describe what features the game will have in detail
>50% of your sale money is held off until you reach 1.0 with those features

>if you don't they hold the money until they add the features and get approved by valve that they match what they promised.

>if they refuse to deliver on those features, penalize/blacklist them from using early access

valve would never implement anything remotely close to this ever though
>>
>>333860810
I'm astonished that pretty much all of these fucking early access survival games were pretty much dayz clones at one point, but now dayz has fallen so far behind, that now dayz is kind of a clone of everything else in the sense of unpolish and update frequency

>stuck in development hell with an update churning out every few months or so
>already passed a stated deadline
>too add more insult to injury, devs add a fucking microtransaction system into the game

And people keep saying,
>It's a decent game for early release!
>>
>>333861538
i've been waiting for project nexus 2 since 2014
>>
Caveat emptor. Even says it on the steam page for all early-access titles. If you're buying an early access title, you better be OK with the game not receiving a single update after that time. Doesn't mean the developer isn't a dick, and you shouldn't boycott them, but any system to force a developer to deliver would be terrible.

Caveat emptor.

Steam doesnt care, they are only in it for the money.

From the indie devs perspective, its the only way to safely balance time and income. You dont want to spend 3 years without income and also face the risk that your game makes no sales on release.

Instead you invest a few months on a small alpha, make some money and gauge whether its popular enough to justify spending time on more updates.

Friendly reminder that Valve gets 30% of every transaction.
