I think that really matters more when you're dealing with top-level competitive play, though. Even Smash 4 has a tier list, with Ganondorf being at the bottom, and it doesn't stop my friend from kicking my ass with him all the time simply because he's better at the game.
You don't have to pay attention to the community either, even if Melee is your favorite (as it is mine). I know only a handful of the top-level players, and that's mainly secondhand from my friends talking about them.

I have been playing melee since 2001, I don't really get the asspain that surrounds the game. It is undeniably the best smash game in terms of gameplay speed and gameplay mechanics, and it is fun to play 1 vs 1 or free for all.

I wouldn't quite say DKs cargo throw is the best it's been, you can get much more off of a throw in Melee. Samus is really fun in Melee too, fucking around with SWD and walling out with a thousand missiles is crazy. I have seen some neat M2 stuff, but pretty much only the footstool into disable. Although Mewtwo was shitty in Melee, he'd still run circles around Smash 4 Mewtwo because he had a strong combo game, particularly on fastfallers.
All I remember about Ike is his jabs from Brawl so he's probably all around better with his strength and a throw combo.

DK's grab can net him combos dealing between 30% and 60%, and kill between 50-100% depending on his rage, and you also get some mix-ups. Fun stuff like cargo stage spikes also work, and you don't die from it yourself.
Ike was just a jab-machine in Brawl, and his jab is pretty average in Smash 4. What makes him good is that he's got power and combos, and his recovery is alright.

Just about every tournament has stream monsters chittering about how broken she is (look at how people talk about Nairo losing to Saj). A lot of people are whining about her, regardless of how broken she actually is. Personally I don't think she is anywhere near as stupid as ICs/MK in Brawl, but you know she will be cancerous because the best way to beat her is to camp/zone her and abuse her shitty framedata and not let her get random witchtimes off. So she's bad for the game in that regard.

You can. I don't get this argument. DK blows in both games for the same reasons and ends up about as viable in both. You can run a train on people you are way better at, but you have to commit harder and eat every combo in the game since you're so fat.
Smash 4 DK is easier to learn just because the game's system allows you to make more mistakes in general and recovery is way easier. On the other hand, good luck maintaining constant momentum. If you're going by the ability to take a stock, Melee characters will just about always win due to touch of death. Smash 4 DK has more tools in neutral though. Beyond that, they aren't very comparable. Different games that work completely differently. And before someone says that Smash 4 DK gets better results, I point to Bum in Melee.

Bayonetta is currently seen as a very easy character to win with and certain parts of the community want to kneejerk and have her banned. If you want to bring Fox into this, Fox has never been easy to win with. Ever.
Do you even know what softbanned means? Zero was literally asking people not to play as her because he thought she was bad for the metagame regardless of her end result of domination or not. DK wrecks other heavies in the game, and does well against some of the top tiers while doing shit against the rest of them. Diddy, for example, is a top character DK has a good match-up against. Shit, Larry even beat Zero's Diddy with his DK he's only been using for a few months, but then gets raped by Zero's Sheik. Now, however, the DK-Sheik match-up is definitely in DK's favor. The Sheik and ZSS nerfs were really good for DK, especially because of rage.

Fox still requires skill to play, remember that. Someone doesn't win with Fox just because they picked him up. Melee is much older than Smash 4 and doesn't have any patches, it's only natural that the metagame eventually narrows down to a small selection of characters.
