you go back through the game, beat up 10 more bosses then go through that gate. Suddenly you're on the other side of that gate, walk down the path and realize you're on the same road you were before just 20 feet down. if you walk right you'll see where you came from
realizing that you put several hours into the game just to effectively go 20 feet is pretty retarded
they should have skipped this ENTIRE fucking realm and just put the gate of winter in the middle of that path instead of adjacent up some fucking hill

The obstacle is both physical and metaphorical. If you couldn't overcome the challenge of obtaining the necessary souls then you wouldn't be able to claim the throne.
IIRC you can sequence break that with an exploit unless they fixed that in SotFS

There's a path that's blocked due to rubble. There's a side path that has a gate which won't open until you kill a certain amount of bosses or have a certain amount of souls. When you do open it, it leads you back to the same path you would be taking if you could climb over the rubble. Makes no goddamn sense.

There is a path that leads to the final segments of the game blocked by fallen debris. To the side of that path is a mausoleum but to open its doors, you need the souls from bosses.
Once you open the door, you find it's completely empty except that it has another door which takes you to the other side of Op's picture.
