is this the closest graphics have come to photorealism? when the fuck will games start looking like this?

Good lord
Shame about the reflections

Nigga who cares
I often mistook Until Dawn for photorealism. From a. Distance, the combination of lighting and detailed character models really makes for some breathtaking shots that I literally could not differentiate from real life.
The guy who psychologically probes you also comments on the game's realism. Pretty neat. Really fun game.
When the cinematic trend dies down
Kek boring minimalistic designs, call me when they can make heap of trash in the middle of some park look realistic, right now that's something that's mirrors edge done years ago.
I'm happy about the focus being on physics rather than graphics 2bh
Behaves real > looks real
>>333831234
Is this real-time? Not too impressive if it's pre-rendered.
>>333836106
>UE4
I want to live there
>>333831234
The better graphic gets, the less money goes into actual gameplay.
wow great gameplay
Why thereis a window in the fucking shower
>>333836658
close, but no lesbians
In 50 years when they master grafix maybe they can start focusing on making actual good gameplay.
If videogames aren't some long forgotten meme by then.
>>333831234
It looks realistic because the whole room is white.

The future is cloud point rendering and path tracing

>>333834680
Fucking this
>>333836938
good thing we have indie games that focus on actual gameplay, made by developers who aren't afraid to emulate. what do you think about indie pixelcore third person procedurally generated survival horror fiction games with puzzle elements and a focus on emotional intelligence?
>>333832040
Wow I played that game and you must have some kind of severe fucking autism to think that
>>333831234
No.
Eventually computer graphics will be more detailed than real life.

and this.

kinda like this vibrant nature scene from MW?
>>333831234
Looks like what Mirror's Edge did in 2008
>>333831234
pre-rendered images=/= real time rendered images
I got hyped by those videos, it turns out out UE4 doesn't look anything like that and no game will in years
>>333838265
That is rendered in real time anon.
>>333838369
Did you ever saw a Unreal engine 3 game looking this good?

Its the same all over again
>>333838209
How do you think Northern Caucasus looks like during early spring? Pripyat being bleak is a better example than this
>>333837140
What the fuck am I supposed to see in this blurry ass fisheyed mess?
Even though I still doubt I would be impressed by this shit.
>>333838594
Most of the late UE3 games? Early UE3 was awful though, only Epic produced good results with it
I was working on a game using real time shadowing and photorealistic textures but it's too much for the average pc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59OCBQS2oTA
Oh and the gameplay's supposed to be some sort of quidditch with airships, it's multiplayer.
>>333838773
You will see that wee need more process power to have real time path tracing without those grain effects, but that shit simulates light as it is, so you dont need a lighting artist or whatever because its like real life.
>>333831234
I do arch viz in UE4 just like that.
It's possible to make an entire game as realistic as that animation, problem is that the game will be fucking huge. Terra bytes.
Also, one major issue, is that gfx/design in most games are bottle-necked by consoles.
When designing/modeling you have to have consoles and their limitations in mind.
Check out VXGI, pretty cool as well.
>>333831234
>when the fuck will games start looking like this?
Never, because fucking consoles and hurr durr pc games can't look better than console games
>>333831234

They already do.

when peoples stop buying underpowered consoles
Graphics whoring is the cancer killing video games.
Every bit of effort and budget that goes into making a fucking brick on a wall have better shadows or making a fucking coffee mug reflect the goddamn light a bit better could be directed to making the game have more actual fucking content like more quests, longer mission, better stories.
Just have a base simple stylized looking graphics and be fucking done with it. Go on from there into actual content.
Shit like, The Witness, Team Fortress 2, Life is Strange, Dishonored, etc... You get the idea.
Universal rule of graphics demos: If you don't see it moving, it probably can't move.
If you want a room in a game to look nearly perfect, you can literally just take photos of a real room and stick the extremely high resolution textures on simple geometry.
I'm sure UE4 is actually doing a fair bit of light and shadow work in real time. But honestly a great deal of this could have been done years ago by just throwing high resolution baked textures at it.
>>333840531
well sure. But the main point is you then don't have to have static lighting.
Photorealism was a mistake.
>>333840120
>>333840215
Don't worry console bros, your Playstation 4.5 will be out soon enough, shit if you're lucky it might even be on par with a half a decade old PC.
>>333840531
>>333840673
Pretty much this. Of course most games use baked lighting, it's much less taxing for the end user.
But the whole point is advancing things so that you can actually have fully dynamic lighting with good texture quality, like >>333839045
WHERE ARE THE WOMEN IN THAT FUCKING VIDEO?
>tfw people blame graphics as if we would get good gameplay if we didn't have it
It's going to be the new boogieman, mark my words
>>333831234
All the wood shit sticks out for some reason, the lighting perhaps?
>that mirror reflection at 30fps at 1:38
awful
>>333831234
>a 3d render is a videogame
>>333831234
OK. But stick some animated models and some particle effects in there and we'll see what happens.
>only on PC
Graphics were a mistake
Somtimes I play 1600x900 instead of 1080p becaus the latter is too sharp, even with msaa and fxaa all the way up. My monitor settings are default
>>333831234
Having tried that with the oculus, shit blew my mind
The most amazint part was putting my face an inch from the metallic part of a hanger. The metal was amazing, and you could see your "reflection" in it, just blurry so you couldn't make it out but enough to see you move in it, just like a metal bar would.
Also I like how I can recognize those vases everywhere, they keep reusing the assets

>>333840120
>>333840215
Go outside and learn what it looks like holy shit
It looks like a printed photograph of something in a magazine, doesnt look like real life does
just like most games try to look like a damn movie
>>333845186
He's right but for the wrong reasons
Better graphics costs a lot of money. Innovative gameplay risks a lot of money, and typical but polished gameplay delays the game, which costs a lot of money.
Games with higher than average production values play it safer than average. They can also be a buggy POS
>>333831234
when consoles die
That's all baked and static, easy to do.
>>333839771
Knowing it's made by Eastern European devs with slav magic it'll probably run a smooth 60 fps on toasters as well. I hadn't heard of this game but I'm definitely pirating it to benchmark my new pc.
