All they do is give her a complex and have her get over said complex by the end of the daughter lines. Plus getting Severa with someone like Subaki means that she's stuck having to decide which world to stay in when everything's over, that's not fair at all.
If you're not going to marry her yourself the least you could do is marry her to Owain for everything they've shared in the past, the cutest supports in the game and the sight of seeing Severa relaxing enough to play along with Owain/Ophelia's antics.

Not quite,She's literally Severa from a world very like Awakening, but not from Awakening. ie. She's not the Severa we knew, but she is a Severa who travelled back in time and defeated Grima
There's a Xenologue that explains why they're in Fates, it's honestly pretty awful and ret-cons a HUGE amount of Fates's story, but, there's one amazing moment whereSevera, Owain and Inigo, while talking to a being of roughly Naga level power, use a wish they've been granted to restore the world of the time they're originally from and provide graves for everyone who died. So the original timeline is saved and their parents spirits are relieved.

Awakening had some really honestly great characters and supports, the only issue it had was that since every character had a tonne of supports, some of them (especially the S-Ranks) were fairly generic. But overall having so many meant the characters all had a decent level of depth, which was nice.
Just off the top of my head:
Robin/Lucina +DLC, Robin/Tharja +DLC, Robin/Severa/Cordelia+DLC were all top tier.
Owain/Severa, Owain/Morgan, Owain/Noire were all great. Ricken/Henry, Virion/Cherche, Gaius/Libra were all really compelling. Pretty much everyone of Frederick's supports was endearing.
Oh and the support where Say'ri talks about how her friendship with Tiki convinced herself not to kill herself after she found out she'd slain her brother on false pretences was damn good. Surprisingly dark for the game, even despite the setting.
As for Fates, Birthright and Revelations won't win any literature awards anytime soon, but they both tell servicable, decent stories. It's only Conquest that really drops the ball.

She's not perfect, she has to work really hard to keep the level she's at. She doesn't have anywhere near Cordelia's level of self-belief, so doubts a lot of what she does and continually second guesses.
She's also fell in love with a married guy and then DIDN'T obsess over him. So that's an improvement.

Well, I'm fine either way since I really liked Tharja in Awakening too (married her in my first playthrough, and gave her the "Keeps stalking Robin" ending for all my others). I think calling her "abusive" is a bit much in the first place when literally almost all her supports are helping people, or going out of her way to look out for someone. She does make a little more sense in the JP version than the EN one though.
Rhajat's just a bit softer and a little more childish. She's still prickly, she's still cold, but she's not quite as aggressive. I don't think Tharja would have put up with Hisame or Ophelia quite as nicely as Rhajat did, and I definitely can't imagine her trying to worship Selkie.

Eugenics doesn't really matter (doubly so if you consider Eternal seals), if you're going to choose based off anything choose based off what skills/classes you want them to inherit.
eg. Ophelia inheriting Sol (Severa) was great for Dark Falcon. Hisame with Lethality (Kagero) was awesome for Swordmaster. Rhajat with Dark Mage (Nyx) was perfect for her.

And people call her shit because in the chapter you get her her damage is terrible compared to the other 2 units you get, and she has low movement, her only benefit being that she can hit twice consistently, which is supposed to show that speed is her strong suit. She just got upstaged.

My first run I had her cosplaying as Lucina (great Lord Class) and she just didn't get enough Str levelups. She seems to always get a lot of Def/Res so she was good, but not amazing, a solid frontliner but nothing more.
Current playthrough she's gotten Str and Speed pretty much every levelup, so she's almost as Tanky but is doubling people for a goddamn billion damage. It's great. Not as strong as Dread Fighter Odin, but still great.
Plus, fuck me if Hero isn't the best looking class in the game. Fates REALLY stepped up the game over Awakening in terms of class visuals.

Everything else I agree with, I'd really want FE to step well away from Awakening in the next installment. I understand FE games being released in duologies isn't new but It only brings Awakening down, trying to leech of it's success, Fates was good enough to stand by itself, so the next game should do that entirely.
Severa as Selena felt fairly goddamn inconsistent too, compare how deferential she is to Camilla and then think about Lucina, her Exalt, who she spent her entire life with. Hell, compare how she talks with Cynthia, Inigo (both of whom could be royals) or Owain (definitely royal and next in line after Lucina in her heirachy). She's absolutlely bowing and scraping before Camilla, nothing at all like how she's ever acted to the woman she actually owes Fealty toward.

That is one thing that bothers me to no end, is just how much the retainers love their lords. While I dunno about Inigo or Owain, we knew Severa had some rather strong yuri undertones about her in Awakening. And Camilla is not only hot as hell but her personality would be one that Severa would cling to as well. Hell her DLC convo has her look like she is about to make a love confession to Camilla.
But aside from Elise, who is literally the most perfect character in the game aside from Mikoto, they're hardly perfect. Leo is still pretty ruthless at times and in the JP version at least is a siscon, and Xander and Camilla are pretty much designed around being flawed.
