After this disaster, what is the best Sims game to replay?
I prefer Sims 3.
It can be unstable and slow, but the gameplay is still so much better than Sims 2 that I can live with it.
Did EA give up on Sims 4?
You never hear anything about it and it's "only" got two expansions.

It would be a miracle if someone could go back to Sims 3 and make a mod that de-bloats and optimizes it, I occasionally get the urge to mess around with it again but then I remember the god-awful load times and crashes and horrible performance I had to deal with

It's just a mediocre game. The base game is missing a lot of features and EA has been slow to expand on it. There's a lot of generic $20 "stuff packs" but no actual game expansions.

Also best to replay is Sims 1 and even then only briefly. Get a little nostalgic rush of shopping channel music and bachelor aesthetics and then stab your ear drums out over the constant wailing and whining.

the last time I played sims 3, I was on a lower end i5 from years ago. now I've upgraded, and am running 8gb of memory, and still doubt that would be enough to ward off the loading screens.
and you're right.. EA should be the ones to fix it. after all the money they made from sims 3 + expansions & stuff, they should do a bro move and optimize that shit.

I felt the same way playing the Sims 3 after owning a lot of the expansions for the Sims 2. After playing around with it for a while I basically gave up on the series.
I did manage to get The Sims 2 with every expansion and stuff pack for free as some sort of promo on Origin a while so I still play that occasionally. Good memories...
