The thing that actually bugs me is I can't convince my friends to ever play it with me. I really loved the multiplayer for that game, and co-op is real fucking fun too.

I know, it's really sad sound design haven't progressed much, I still replay older games like F.E.A.R, Thief, Doom 3, Blood Money, etc.

I don't know why more people don't realize how much sound adds to immersion. People argue about graphics, and now all of a sudden VR is supposed to be the 'be-all end-all' of immersion.

Just look to games like Dead Space, BFBC2, Silent Hill 2, Stalker, and many others that I can't name off the top of my head, and you'll see how important it is.

I haven't been able to finish either even though source is unfinished, I always get bored and drop it around halfway through. HL2 on the other hand I love, finished it multiple times. Don't know what it is about 1 and its spin offs/remakes that makes me drop them.

HL Classic = works
HL Source = very buggy (honestly it feels like a early beta).
Black Mesa = Looks very good but they fed up the balance and game play (to be fair I'm not up to date maybe they fixed it).

I bet a graphics mod for the original HL could look better than both. I don't see any Source releases with physically based rendering or fancy graphical effects, and their bakes radiosity+cubemap solution is looking really dated - especially when the cubemaps still don't line up with the area around them.
