Plenty of games have good gameplay. If a game only has good gameplay but dogshit aesthetics, soundtrack, sound design, setting, etc. I don't have a good reason to just go play something else.

Mount&Blade's setting is extremely generic, the aesthetics are dogshit, and there's no atmosphere to speak of.
The game's still god tier, though.
