So how often does /v/ upgrade? This generation seems really bad for buying mid-range cards, seriously looking at going 980ti but I know I'll be the laughing stock of /v/ when pascal comes out 3 months after I buy a $650 card.
>>
Still running my 750Ti, here. No need to rush.
>>
>>333785519
I'm running a 270x right now which is still great if OC'd but I'm looking for a bit of an upgrade.

I'm deciding between a 390 and a 970, but I don't plan on going above 1080p. With that in mind, what should I get to run games on ultra for the next few years at 50-60 fps?
>>
I buy a new card at least every 6 months. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't be PC gaming.
>>
Running dual 6950s. Still don't know why I chose to endure the special hell known as AMD's Crossfire. I should have got a 970 when it came out, like everybody else.

Worse driver support, if at all.
Worse microstuttering, only fixable via 3rd party software, known as RadeonPro.
>>
How do I not fall for a meme? People say the 390 is a good choice but I'm terrified of the AMD driver meme being true, or falling for the "there's no point in waiting for Polaris/Pascal" meme.

I do distinctly remember AMD taking 9-12 months before fixing the drivers of their 7950-7970 cards just so they could be on part with the 670-680 in Battlefield 3.
>>
>>333786212

Not him but SLI / crossfire is such a waste.

>double your power consumption when most cards today draw 250w-400w

>Games / drivers horribly optimized to take advantage of multiple GPUs

I know most of you don't even pay your electric bill but it does have a pretty noticeable effect on your usage if you're doing SLI

I pulled the trigger and got a 980ti. The pascal card has set no date and no expected dates of announcement. And people speculate that the when the card is announced it will take months before it is release. And that release will only replace midrange cards like the 960. Best estimates guess that the 980ti won't be replaced for a year if not two years.

Found a good deal where Amazon took $150 off due to some problem. Guessing someone returned the card because the only damage I could find was to the static free bag inside the box. Keeping the box in good condition and worst comes to worst I can sell my card for at least $300. But I was tired of waiting and hearing nothing.

Also speccy is bugged when it comes to vram. Card has 6gb but only 2gb show up on speccy.
>>
>>333785815
right now with the new generation right in the corner its a bit hard to say, but I think Nvidia is droping the ball with drivers and their lackluster support for older generation graphic cards. So it is possible that the same thing happens with Maxwell... so I would say AMD at least with the current generation.
>>
14nm fucking when?
>>
>>333787539
Lol i got my 770 and its still pulling 60fps in alot of games with aa at 1080p

>>
>>333786865
I'm him
>VRAM is NOT doubled
VRAM utility has maxed out with 2gb years ago. Why? Because the bottleneck is the memory bandwidth, which crossfire/SLI actually doubles.
>Games / drivers horribly optimized to take advantage of multiple GPUs
SOME games. The issue is usually with how late support actually comes.
>>

There is what 3 DX12 games out and they all run and look pretty average for what they are.

Vulkan still hasnt taken off yet.

I upgraded from a 460, which is like 5 years old, to a 970 in september I think.
reason I chose the 970 is because I have a small case the 980ti wouldn't fit into and i only have a 450w power supply, so I'm not sure if I could use the AMD equivalent of a 970.

I can play current gen games at about medium settings with shadows on low with 60FPS. If I could not reach 60FPS at all or was forced into low settings then I would have upgraded.

From my point of view, I'm getting console quality graphics with 60FPS at 1080p, so I'm still very satisfied. In theory, I could ride out this console gen and not upgrade, but after 5years with the same gpu, I'm ready for something better.

Would a new video card even help me at this point? I seriously wonder.

I want improvements but at this point it's gonna be another 800$ Motherboard/Ram/GPU/CPU expenditure.

I'm still using a 2500k, CPUs haven't advanced a whole hell of a lot since 2011.

ds3 max 1080p, you're pretty much getting 60 fps with a 2gb 770
same with witcher 3 if you turn off hairworks and other nvidia garbage

GPU prices don't really go down, they just stop being made.

My 670 2 years later was still 350$ if you were to buy a new one.

I've had dual 290s since it first came out nearly 3 years ago. Crossfire has had its ups and downs but it's been amazing in the last 6 months. Witcher 3 runs at 1440p at a smooth 60 fps on ultra everything except goyworks. Very little stuttering these days. I'll probably get crossfire vega if the last six months is any indication.

Likely meant eBay

Everyone tries to sell their cards

Well yea, used of course they go super cheap.

This

My 760 is still able to max out most of the recent relases at 1080p 60FPS and that includes GTA 5. No reason to upgrade unless you want to go for higher resolutions or higher fps (like 120fps)
