Anime fighters are literal mash to combo, they have so many cancel frames on their normals. Combos in anime fighters only get complex when they start implementing air-jump cancels.

This probably has something to do with my obsession with the dash fighters like Blazeblu and Guilty Gear, which seem to have more complex fighting systems than most. I get beat on when I go online, but I still enjoy it. I'm that guy that you stomp in Ranked mode, but I never disconnect or quit the match.
I wish I had more friends to play with, but sadly they are all into mobas, and I'm a bit burned out on those games. This turns into a vicious cycle of never getting good because I never have opportunities for local play with a decent competitor.
Never really been into Street Fighter, but I may pick up the new one if there is a price drop.

Im 33. I played Street Fighter 1 in the arcades back when it was called Street Fighter. Street Fighter 2 came out and you had to stand in line to play and it was my first dose of competitive gaming. I have solid fundamentals. Blocking, footwork, sweeps, throws, and uppercuts and of course I can pull off specials easily.
I went to Japan in 2000 when MvC 2 was all the rage and played against people at the arcades and didn't lose, they were shocked. Plus I did it with 3 Guiles (Merica). In college, we had MvC2 parties and I was called "The Wizard".

Honestly, not too much. I try to learn the normals, get a feel for what's good in certain situations. Anti-airs, air-to-airs, combo starters, spacing, frame traps, etc. Then get into some basic hitconfirms and combos.
With Ryu, you got s.HK, cr.HP, Shoryu for anti-airs.
j.LK is a really good jump-in button. j.MK as well, and it can cross up.
On the ground, you got cr.MK (which you can cancel into fireball), s.MP, back+HK, s.LK, etc
I mean really, having a solid fireball game, spacing, and anti-airs will be more than enough - even without character specific tech or setups.
I'd recommend checking out Tokido or Daigo if you want to see some good Ryu play
The real question is how many of you have even played Street Fighter EX 3 Plus Alpha? Yes that's the real name and yes that is the 2ns best fighting game of all time after MvC2.
Also, props to everyone for sticking to Street Fighter when the thread is about fighting games. Sure, Soul Caliber, KoF, and MK are ok but they are shit compared to SF. SF game play is the smoothest and that why the ydont need all the bells and whistles like MK, although I wish they would.

What you guys should try if youre not good is get a friend and play without supers, even no projectiles. My friends and I do that and call it "Karate Only". It teaches you to be patient as well as learn the "flow" of the game. You can trick people by using momentum and switching it up. If you knock them down, sweep them, then next time you knock them down, fake the sweep and throw them as they attempt to block.
Even anti airs, it doesn't always have to be a shoryuken, just a simple uppercut or high kick to train your reflexes. After "Karate Only", then add projectiles. I can beat 1/2 the people I play without any specials because I am a Karate Master .
