Much of the same, a bit less of the repetition, tons of recycled locations, some fun new jobs, main-story with a better flow but somewhat dumb payoff, some pretty dumb side-stories and characterizations of the old asterisk-holders, most new tracks tend to suck until endgame,Japanesevoice acting is still pretty good though, Anne > Airy, Magnolia wants to fuck Yew and Edea is still best girl.
If you liked Default, you'll probably enjoy Second. Anyone expecting Second to be a big jump from Default will probably be underwhelmed.

The new classes are fun to use. The improvements to gameplay make combat more fun. No backtracking like Default.
Story is complete ass; game keeps trying to make itself a literal anime. FE Fates probably had a better plot than this crap. Yew and Magnolia are boring characters, Tiz and Edea don't really have a purpose being there. Old asterisk users are back for no reason and have stupid side missions that go nowhere, why they are alive and suddenly trying to be good is beyond me.
If you really enjoyed Default I'd give it a shot. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Don't know about Fates, but Second's story definitely is somewhat weak. As >>333767523 put it, Yew is a pretty boring run-of-the-mill protag only there to introduce other new characters around him, Magnolia ends up disappointingly one-dimensional and annoying with her pseudo-moonspeak and constantly wanting Yew's D, Edea returns because she's the fan-favorite and Tiz is pretty much just there because the game needed some 4th dude and so that Agnes has someone to speak to.
On the antagonist side, Anne accompanying the new literally who main antagonist makes it glaringly obvious that there's actually some bigger picture going on as it was in Default. To be fair, that story actually tries to explain the whole Ba'al thing and establish some bigger world design for the series, but it ultimately ends up shaping Second into more of a side-story for a Bravely Third that's more or less hinted at in the end. Add to that some actual side-stories with the old antagonists, that feel terribly shoehorned most of the time, just there to litter the game with most of the old classes and overcomplicate it by going Sophie's Choice on them.
The full thing isn't as terrible as this may sound, but it's definitely held back sometimes by dull writing and/or characterization.
