What are some sections in games you honestly had to look up how to beat?
>>
Pretty much the entirety of Scratches. Some of the pixl hunt combination items were just fo fucking stupid
>Need oil for lantern
>Alright, oil can right here
>Why the fuck wont it let me take it
>Holy shit its RIGHT HERE
>Turns out you have to rip a page out of a book, wipe the can to see the lable, and then find a nail to make a hole so the oil pours easier.

That was just the beginning.

This one Braid puzzle near the end of the game that was the only one in the entire thing that required you to use momentum to beat or something like that.

Description is faulty, but it's been way too long and I can only vaguely remember it. But I distinctively remember it being a puzzle that made use of a quirk in the mechanics that was explained nowhere and used nowhere else.

Why does this always get posted? Is it a joke or was there a bug in the first release that messed it up?

I had my mom buy a walkthrough way back when for Superstar Saga. I don't remember the exact room, but that dungeon with the enemies that changed color and you had to match them to destroy them, I got stuck for a week. I was literally just missing a spot to make Mario mini and go into a whole. Couldn't put the walkthrough down after that.

A lot of FF VII's puzzles were trial and error based so I just looked them up in advance instead of guessing 10 times in a row.

I'll never get why people had so much trouble with this.

If you stopped to read the journal that you get off the guy with the claw, (I can't remember if it's a mandatory quest item or not) it literally has a sentence in there that says "they say when you have the Golden Claw, the answer is in the palm of your hand." or something of that nature. It wasn't hard to figure out, even then you've only got 27 possible combinations for each door so you could just as easily brute-force it if you couldn't figure out the combination, especially since there's no punishment for getting a wrong guess.

If you call the Colonel a lot of times, he'll tell you the number. Same thing with the Psycho Mantis battle: call him a lot and he'll tell you to switch controller ports. If you can him even more, he'll say you can also shoot the stone busts around the place.
>>
I'm fairly sure I got stuck in Star Ocean on SNES and just gave up and deleted the game out of frustration. I had went and looked up a guide beforehand and still couldn't figure it out, and this was before youtube was out so it wasn't like I could look up a video walkthrough
>>
>>333750470
I literally went through 99% of Megaman X7 without knowing I could rotate the camera, because you don't really need to do it. Except in the fight against Red, where you have to dodge all manner of stuff while jumping on top of some tiny platforms. The camera doesn't fix itself around in this single battle, so you'll probably end up in a situation where you can't see the enemy. I actually managed to beat it without rotating the camera, and only realized it when I replayed the game.

dude. this puzzle is challenging. seriously. but you can beat it.

do you always give up that easily?

i mean, i admit that it is hard, but how long did you actually try?
>>
>>333750997
There's a tiny hint if you press TRIANGLE during the battle - you'll see Snake through someone else's eyes. At first you assume it's Mantis, but it's the busts.
>>
>>333749074
The only thing I've had to look up was that "press the seal to the map" thing in Phantom Hourglass.

I couldn't understand what they meant, because there was a huge disconnect in using the top screen in relation to the bottom screen.

>>
>>333749074
Maybe it's just because I remember it as a kid, but isn't the only thing you need that isn't in a dungeon the Ice Rod?
maybe the Big Bomb wasn't explained but I know I wanted to see who took my house in the Dark World. He won't be selling it yet but I don't know, there's a point where you just remember too much of a game to give it a fair look in how things aren't explained, you just know.
>>
>>333751125
This.

It's the type of puzzle where you're guaranteed to solve it as long as you keep trying different approaches.
>>
>>333751290
It was in the journal if you read it
I bruteforced it as a kid too but I replayed it a couple years ago on scumm and finally realized how to do it

The final boss of KH2.

there was this one QTE where you had to spam Triangle !!!!!AAAAAND!!!!!!!!!!! X in order to beat it.

the thing it, for the whole game, except this very situation here, you had to only press Triangle in EVERY. SINGLE. QTE. SO. FAR.

and the fucking game didn't even tell you that you had to press Triangle AND X this time in order to win. fucking artificial difficulty.

And the shittiest part of this:

it was actually a bar that you would fill each time you press a button, wether you press Triangle or X. but since i thought you would only need to press Triangle, and since i didn't managed to fill the bar by that, i thought that i was just not pressing fast enough. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!

and guess what? If you didn't manage to get it through, you die. Restart the fucking battle.

Holy shit, what a pain in the ass. I had to look up that i need to spam X as well. As if i were a fucking psych or something. how the fuck were i'm supposed to know that?!

That one chest in Hallow Bastion in KH1 that you could only get to if you froze the bubbles and jumped on the ice platform. No where does it say you can do this. You didn't do it before and you don't do it again the rest of the game.
