Sony's so far in the lead, they can just take a risk, slap the polaris or pascal equivalent of 380 or 970 in the ps4k, and call it a day. Remember, Pascal and Polaris are supposed to be a TREMENDOUS leap for pc architecture and will be touted as the 1st true lineup of 4k-ready cards.

So that's $300 just for the GPU, you need a much better CPU so that the processor isn't just bottlenecking everything. A GPU like that also draws more power than an entire console, so you need a high quality PSU.
This creates heat management and noise issues that require a total redesign of the console form when the priority has always been to make something small and quiet.

Reducing OS bloat and specialised hardware can only take you so far, this isn't a PC vs Console debate, its a fact that you wouldn't be able to fit the hardware you would need into the current form factor of next gen consoles.
Like this is something that people build PC's go through, small form factor is expensive and requires sacrifices, and that same prospect exists when designing consoles as well.

That was possible in 2005/6 because the highest end GPUs were only 100W.
This will not be possible again in 2016, but power efficiency has increased enough to allow a PS4k to be 2.5 or 3 times as powerful as a PS4.

Nigga 4k gaming isn't cheap, just because you can buy it and put it together doesn't make it "consumer grade". My computer can play games at 4k, I built it so it could. But consumer grade technology usually denotes mid grade electronics at price points for mass consumption.

So I JUST beat this game. I love DS1&2 and I honestly felt like game was not that good. Every area looked pretty much the same and I cheesed everything with the R2 Hunter's Axe charge. I never used a different weapon at all.
