What went so right?
nostalgia
>>333724923
I played the game for the first time 2 years ago and was blown away, I seriously doubt most people have childhood nostalgia of such a creepy game either.
>>333725035
I played it for the first time back in 2012. Yeah, the graphics are dated as fuck, but the atmosphere is what kept me playing. I mean, everything else was great, but goddamn was I immersed as fuck.
The developers were actual developers that cared about making a great game.
>>333724923
Can also say this is not the case. I thought it was just /v/ nostalgia until I played it a few years ago. Certainly a must-play just because of the complexity that just isn't around any more.
>>333725442
I recommend SHTUP, keeps the vanilla design and aesthetic but deblurs everything and generally makes it look nicer

Looking Glass Studios
Is remake any good?
>>333725675
Neat, I'll check it out next time I play through it again.
Fuck The Body of the Many, though. I'm not looking forward to that place again.

Everything LGS made was golden. The Thief series and the System Shock series are my favorite franchises of all time.
Saying "nostalgia" is a total absence of actual criticism towards the game design.

At first I hated this, it clashed with the atmosphere and level for me, but the more I hear it.... it grows on you, you know? The noise! In.... in my head! MAKE IT STOP! it is... a good feel.

He's a big Hollywood composer now

When will this shitty argument die? I played this a couple months ago and it's one of my favorite PC games.
>atmosphere
>story
>setting
>enemies
>level design
>music
>RPG elements
>researching shit
>building your character
>listening to audio logs
>cooping with your bud
Played it for the first time about a year ago, played it through 3 times in a row back to back because it's so fucking good and comfy.
Why don't they make games like these anymore? I'm hyped yet fearful for what System Shock 3 will be.
Fuck I want to play System Shock now.
>>333727259
well, you can. It even has mouselook. Remake is coming though.
Story, mostly.
>>333726027
SS2 didn't have a lot of good "game design". Poorly balanced skills (or rather, not balancing at all), not challenging enemies due to flawed game mechanics, difficulty is at its best at Enginneering and Hydro but then you just get too much stuff.
Still had fun with it.
>>333725675
No you shut up.
>>333727360
Should I play SS1 enhanced or wait for the remake?
>>333726153
F
They were so fucking good.

These guys were the authority on player Collision model.
The wall leaning in thief and crawling in Systemshock 1 were some of the best.
>>333724923
bs, i played this 3 years ago and had a blast
what impressed me the most was how well the game played for its time
>>333728361
Level design blew my brains first time I played it. The ship feels like a wholesome, giant thing, not videogamey levels you traverse. So superior to shitty thematic Deus Ex levels.
>>333728613
>>333728613
>shitting on deus ex out of nowhere
why do ss fans have such an inferiority complex?
>>333728742
Thanks consoles
>>333728504
Took me a week to figure out how to make that jump.
>>333728779
First time I've seen it, but I understand his frustration. Deus Ex's world was never connected, the train hopping was a one way ticket. They didn't start fixing that until invisible war, but no one talks about invisible war.
>>333728094
Means 'to push forward' in Yiddish, which was ZylonBane's original intention.
>>333728504
I know it's only a video game but lore-wise why would the ship designer decide to build a ramp like that?
>>333728742
Cleaner edition
>>333729237
>fixing that until invisible war
I don't see how having 40 second loading transitions for every little zone 'fixing' it
>>333729329
Why would they build a room you can't get into?
>>333729329
Tony Hawk had to get a job after his skating career tanked.

Where is Bioshock 2?
>>333729570
Nowhere because it's pretty much Bioshock 1.1.
Good story. Good challenge (unless you were savescumming). Good music.
>>333729329
>why would the ship designer decide to build a ramp like that?
Reminds me of this scene

10/10 game until the Rickenbacker.
Then it starts going really downhill really fast. Shame they ran out of money for that part of the game.
>>333730262
The egg part is really annoying, yeah.
Good ol' Garrett, though.
>>333730262
I personally liked the Rickenbacker as much as the rest of the ship. I think people had problems with it because it was a deathtrap without an actual map.
I agree about the body of the many and the very last area being shitty.
