No it's not. Support for the game ended in December, meaning they would have 1 year and a half to develop the sequel if it's out in May 2017. They're not holding off on it, anything after 2017 is too late. The console needs momentum as fast as they can.

I dont see why they can't emulate everything that isn't a WiiU game through virtual console anyways. If dolphin can do it so can Nintendo. Build an emulator into the console that plays discs from Wii and GC, and keep adding to the VC library for all the games older then that.

My guesses would be Sm4sh, Zelda, Bayo 2 and Pokken.
I don't think Splatoon will be one due to them probably wanting to expand the franchise with a Splatoon 2 instead.
I also think it's more likely we get Mario Kart 9 instead of a port of 8, but not so sure on this one.

But that was literally impossible for the Wii U to have a good launch. The thing was supposed to launch in 2011 but was changed just before E3 to 2012 because they had no games. Also, all the main teams released a game either in late 2010 or 2011, they couldn't have a single game ready for Wii U's launch a mere year later (Mario 3D Land, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, ...)

The last years of the wii were fucking barren and most console game teams didnt release games for years.
The reason it was so barren because nintendo cant into HD and dosent even have the workforce to do HD games like they did SD ones.
You have to consider that nintendo is the smallest out of all 3 console makers in terms of developers and nintendo is also smaller than most AAA publishers.

My guesses. No Mario Kart and Splatoon since the sequels are probably well in development, Smash will expand the game's life since the Wii U is being retired and we probably won't see Smash 5 for a while, DK gets ported all the time and Xenoblade is a high budget, very well received title that could reach a greater audience with a port.
