Considering Jedi's use of force is primarily kinetic in nature (if you discount the shitty electricity fingers), what's the best way to showcase that kind of power in a video game? It's hard to design something that you cannot properly see emanating from a character and yet that's the whole draw.

I don't feel like you've played enough of the Star Wars games, it's a problem they overcame a long time ago in countless titles.

It's best to not show anything emanating from the jedi/sith, but I really LOVE the effect they used in the force awakens to demonstrate kylo ren holding things in place. That sort of blurring being caused by atmosphere trapped in the force power acting weird.

They also used the effect when he had Rey in his grasp. I thought his "Force stasis" or whatever was fucking great and made him unique from other on screen Sith.

I think the way they did it in The Force Unleashed was good, with a kind of shockwave. Modern games could probably make the effect much more subtle whole being equally noticeable using a kind of atmospheric distortion effect.

I get what you're saying.

But it looks really nice, so I'm gonna have to disagree. The slight vibration looked great and made it a strangely unsettling effect. Call it what you like, the thing he affects is suspended until he releases it or seems to go beyond a certain range. I think "Stasis" is as good a name as any for that.

I disagree with that.

The force has many uses outside of kinetic applications.

Things like mind tricks, jedi speed, and even being able to wield a lightsaber well all rely on the force.

But that's besides the point. The way the force is displayed now works fine. It's an invisible all encompassing force, so somebody doing some kind of emote like pushing with their hand, and then the force effect happening works just fine for me.

Not to sound pretentious, but Ren's "stasis" being unstable like his lightsaber is a representation of his unstable psyche and motivations.

I feel like a jedi or sith who is at peace with their place and not torn between light and dark like ren would have much more stable force effects.

that makes sense, i guess. i just think that force has a much more powerful feel to it when it's understated. watched the movie last night btw, thought he was poorly written and acted so there was no extra dimension to his tantrums; came off as goofy. thought adam driver would have more charisma. daisy ridley carried the movie, she's great.

I do think driver was a little weak, but not enough for it to be a major complaint.

My favorite parts of the movie were the interactions between boyega and oscar isaac. They have a fantastic buddy chemistry

Just create a shader that looks like glass without the gloss and apply that to the geometry for the kinetic attack effects. That's pretty much the best way to emulate pure kinetic force. Just check out some slow mo explosion videos if you want to see what I'm talking about.
