Should I get a 390 or a 970? Which meme should I fall for?
>>
>>333704259
390, without question.
>>
More important

when the fuck the new cards coming out
>>
>>
>>333704259

The "Wait 2 months for 490X because it will be +15% Fury X for 400$" meme.
>>
>>333704485
The wait for June/July meme, when you will get Fiji/GM200 performance for the same price or better
>>
>>333704485
end of june is a rumor for amd, rumors about amd are true most of the time
nvidia rumor is august, and nvidia rumors are false most of the time

i'd wait for comparison of both, if amd gets head start of two months it may trample nvidia with proper driver support this time
>>
>>333704259
PS4
>>
Has anyone been having issues with these new drivers they have been putting out? My temps are getting really high and I'm stuttering on SF now which was never a problem.

Anyone know what the last drivers were before they switched to this new settings interface? I'm pretty sure that's when it broke.
>>
>>333704259
970
>>
AMD are fucking piss poor when it comes to drivers and help.

Don't gimp yourself.
>>
>>333704259
just wait till june. Polaris is in june.
>>
Allow me to piggy back off this thread.

I can only afford a Nvidia 640 graphics card.

My CPU is an i5 though.

What kind of settings can I run AAA games? Will it be okay medium settings,1080p? maybe 40 fps?
>>
>>333704646
latest Nvidia rumor is July, but those would be in very short supply if they are using GDDR5X in the higher end models.

If AMD is using HBM1 they should have a head start. If they are also also waiting for GDDR5X they will release at the same time as Nvidia.
If
>>
>>333704806
>AMD are fucking piss poor when it comes to drivers and help.
What problems have people being having with AMD drivers in the past handful of updates?
>>
>>333704806
>AMD are fucking piss poor when it comes to drivers and help.
funny thing, last 2 month nVidia released only unstable drivers. Their new Quantum Break Game Ready driver crashes constantly while playing QB and they had drivers that had to be manually removed in safe mode, they were so busted.

Right now ball is in nvidia court.
>>
>>333704851
ffs do more research. you should know by now that each game is different. you can run different games at different fps at different resolutions.
the main question has always been and will always be...what do you want? what is your standard of gaming? where do you want to be?
>>
>>333704934
crossfire complaints - their own damn fault for buying two cards

everything else doesn't go beyond minor
not like nvidia killing monitors recently
>>
>>333704864
they have at least 4 new models, 2 with HBM1, 2 with GDDR5X
>>
>>333704713

Fuck yeah m8, buy PS4 now and get fucked in the ass on the E3 when they announce PS4K, 100$ more expensive than GPUs with double performance.
>>
>>333704259
390 runs better in any DX12 or Vulkan game.
>>
>>333704985
I don't know I am new to PC =/

I am happy with consoles performance 1080p 30fps.

Can my computer do that or do I need a better GPU?
>>
>>333704259
I fell for the 390 meme and this meme is dank as fuck.

Love my Sapphire 390. Quiet, best cooling and the performance is great

what? no

gbm going for vega

polaris gets gddr5x which is basically hbm1 but bigger

dual fiji doesn't count as new model

>crossfire complaints
Such as? First time I've heard of new crossfire issues.
>>
>>333705065
well that depends if you're happy with 1080p/30fps or want better. and also what kinds of games you're playing. there are dedicated websites for this you know?
>>
>>333705137
there are no vulkan games except one barely functional talos principle demo run
>>
>>333705024
Polaris 10 is likely to use HBM1. The low end Polaris 11 could still use GDDR5 to save cost
>>
>>333705148
I am happy with that right now it is okay brb need to go shower
>>
>>333705137

This,>>333705196,

I don't even know any DX12 games atm.

There has been zero talk about when it will actually be used and most likely it'll be like DX11 when it first came, nobody really utilized it until 3-4 years after it came out.

Hell even now some games are DX10
>>
>>333705125
The Polaris 10 PCB is supposedly the same size as the Nano. That points to HBM1.
Also GDDR5X mass production is only starting in summer, so it's simply not available for a June release.
>>
>>333705060

It runs better on any game now desu
>>

>>
I have a 970, would switch to a 390 in a heartbeat.
>>
>>333705196
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support
Also RPCS3, Dolphin, Xenia(soon), support DirectX 12 or Vulkan.
All I'm saying is that the 390 will be better in the long term as more shit comes out using the new APIs since it has like a 50% performance lead over the 970 in games that use them.
>>
>>333705212
well most are. some ppl go ape-shit over 60+fps. it's not necessary but can change the experience.
it's what aides the VR experience in immersive-ness and what appalls some viewers from high def bluray movies. it's what the human eye has basically been conditioned to becoming use to in a theatrical sense.
>>
>>333705382
Well, there you go.
Never really found the appeal of using more than one video card, and I good thing I guess.

>>
>>333705470
imo most ppl do not need it and are fine without. some claim to never go back after playing above 30 fps. if you're new to pc gaming stick with the 390 or 970, somehow get your 60+ fps experience in from a friend and decide for yourself before spending $700+ on a gpu
>>
>>333705615
good, i want technology dead
SLI as well its development time waster for 1% percent of audience that wastes time that can be spent on optimization of everything else
>>
Wait t 5 years and get whatever is the best card. It will be better than anything available today.

>>333705757

The only way to record DX12 numbers is PresentMon (assuming no ingame benchmark) which confuses the fuck out of scrubs.

Some people still try and use the likes of afterburner but that will display incorrect information as it hooks into DX11 and below.

Dont want to make a new thread, should i het a 970 or wait for the new cards to come out, how much will they most likely be?
and yes this is the first time im buying a replacement card

>GDDR5X
>HBM1
GDDR5X is GDDR5 with a double prefetch allowing theoretically twice the transfers for the same frequency. At first it will be a lower frequency though.

>>333705280
DX11 had the issue of the vast portion of the market not supporting it. Only early adopters.
DX12 is already supported by every GPU sold in the last four years.

>>333705308
You're thinking Polaris 11 being that size

>>333705615
Crossfire isn't dead, he just wants integral API support for multi-GPU utilization, independent of brand or make of the GPUs used

It's called hitting the node timings

The guy sourced later clarified it was over an inch bigger.

That's larger than the Fury X mind you.
