It's not very popular at all.
they just tell you it sells like hotcakes so you feel like a pleb and like an odd-man-out for not being with the rest of the make-believe 99% who already bought it.
It makes extra money sure, like getting a nickel for every dollar is extra money to be made - but that just means 95% of people literally do not give a shit. Even if its a mappack or addon or a new character, there are more people who drop the product altogether than buy the DLC. It's a lot of hard work for very little payoff.
