Are you ready for the crossover of a lifetime /v/?
>>333684746
How the fuck is Detective Conan still going? It's so old that Conan should've already aged his way into college.
I thought it was Professor Layton

It was bound to happen really.

>>333684746
>Meitantei Conan leeching off someone's fame after he ruined Lupin's movie with his boring antics
Yeah, nah, it's gonna be shit, I can bet on that
>>333687173
So...he was a high school student and he become a kid, and now he's aged to being a high school student again as a kid. Has he given up on turning back yet? Seems like there'd be no reason to at this point.
>Conan named himself after Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes.
>Wright/Naruhodo's ancestor worked with Sherlock Holmes
So is Holmes a fictional or non-fictional character in their combined universe?

hype level: maximum.
>>333688909
He was joking.
That was a what-if special
>>333689507
At this point why haven't people put two and two together and figured out that if they just stick Conan on a deserted island somewhere that murders will stop occurring?
>>333684746
Conan always gets the culprit, but Phoenix always wins the case.
How are they going to go with that?
>>333689604
to be fair the murders will keep happening but they'll just stop getting solved
I dropped this after 100 chapters because it was getting repetitive
Should I continue
>>333685061
arthur conan doyle also ask the same thing when he tried to end sherlock holmes.
How much time has even passed since he became a kid in his mango/animu world?
>>333689154
How many cases have there been? I remember some taking more than a day to solve. Surely there's been more than 365 days worth of cases by now.
>>333689874
if you dropped it because you found it repetitive then it probably wont be your cup of tea.
Episode 176 is where the actual plot gets more or less presented, so you decide.

so this series is worth reading then?
>live near a Japanese import shop
>four and a half shelves of their manga books are occupied by Conan books
For those that keep up with it, what makes this series so enduring?
Isn't that just an advertisement for both shows individually since they're back to back in the same time slot?
>tfw you've watched every case closed dub and can't watch the sub because it sounds like shit
Please kill me.
>>333689507
Holy shit some decent animation for once.
>>333690574
That dub was really great, I was really sad that the series never really caught on. It felt like it would have been perfect for a saturday morning cartoon slot but it was just way too grim for that. Fucking sucks, and then they buried it by putting it on a fucking 2AM time slot.
strangely enough
i found about 30 vols of og jap manga in the trash, some are conan.
>>333684746
I've been reading Conan for almost 20 years. Please don't allude that it's anywhere near some shitty VN series.

>>333689743
>>333690296
The same exact problem that was presented in Layton vs Wright.
Expect Conan to solve the case and merely string Phoenix along for the ride, merely using him as a tool.
Hell, he may not even be intended to be there at all
Best solution though is as follows:
>Conan has no respect for either Prosecution or Defense
>Initially tries pointing things out to the police in his typical fashion
>Japanafornian police get the wrong idea and hastily indict someone
>Carries out his own investigation
>Ends up withholding some evidence
>Keeps extending forth relentless logic but to no avail
Day 1 Court
>Eventually gets called up to the witness stand when Phoenix proves his relevance to the case
>Isn't trying to hide anything in his testimony, but also doesn't want to reveal how much he knows
>Testimony ends up being hard as fuck
>Eventually though Conan coughSs up the evidence in a "Oh is this important?" type way
>Said evidence makes no sense with reasonable, rational logic.
>However, when you apply 「Thinking Outside the Box」, it all falls into place
>Conan gains respect for Phoenix, realizes he's not just some bumbling doofus
>Conan realizes what he should have been investigating all along
>Discretely passes this information on to Phoenix, who then uses it (combined with his own tactics) to extend the trial for more investigation
Day 2
>Conan becomes a second Maya
>Helps out during the investigation phases
>Find some grade A evidence with the help of inventions
>Standard investigation stuff, Conan creates plenty of new leads to investigate
Day 2 Court
>Not sure what to do with Maya here, but having Conan be Co-defense is something that shouldn't be passed up
>Standard procedures
>Conan finds out a lot of contradictions, sometimes stealing your arguments after you shout Objection!
>However, he never outright tells you the answer; rather he errs on the side of letting you figure it out
>Have Phoenix deliver final blow, but Conan explains the whole story
>End

It probably looks like a reversed version of from the front or right respectively, except perhaps a bit distorted due to perspective.
I remember watching this show in my country
the funny thing is that none of the names of characters were japanese, everyone had occidental names

I'm against name changing on a fundamental level, but (and this is definitely due to nostalgia) all the English names sound fine.
Yeah it's a little dumb to change Shinichi to Jimmy but keep the Kudo, but Jimmy Kudo rolls off the tongue nicely; polus Jimmy is a bretty gud detective name.
Sans the name changing though, the English dub is actually one of the better dubs out there.
Hell, it might actually be one of my favorite English dubs, next to Shin-Chan.

>>333694405
In the third case of DGS you merely get an innocent verdict without the true culprit being found.
Is Detective Conan still a thing? I watched in when it was on Adult Swim probably 15 years ago, and even then it looked like it was an old as fuck show. Same thing with Lupin the 3rd. I don't know if that's still going on, but I got the impression that it was from the 80s.

>>333694972
You'll probably have forgotten that spoiler by the time DGS is in English
>>333695060
That's the problem with spoilers, they always stick with you. Doesn't help that I have good memory.
>by the time DGS is in EnglishNEVER EVER
>>333695239
It'll get fan translated eventually anon, just hold out till 2020.You could just learn Japanese and play it in that time period
>>333694972
Don't worry, the guy you defend who forged evidence, gets killed after the case. By being burned alive in the cart where the murder was commited.
Also sherlock holmes is a fraud and all of his stories comes from his imagination, written by Watson, a 10 year old girl. For example they directly reference the speckled band story, and case 2 is incredibly similar to it. Except its not a snake. But Sherlock Holmes later recounts to Watson about how it was a snake. Also the victim of case 2 is your mentor.
Also everyone is fucking racist against Japs. They use a jury system in London, fucking bitch in the case 4 says "Look at that yellow face guy, that Japanese"
You are also defending a Jap guy, so they are all like "Oh then I saw that suspicious looking Jap, of course your defending him" "Look at his suspicious eyes"
>>333689059
He's right though. Conan is pretty much irrelevant at this point except to grade schoolers. The author needs to end the story in a big way to get some attention now.
>>333695457
That looks like a big post of what I don't want to read.

Sherlock holmes is the victim in the DLC case.
>>333690906
it's an anime crossover, not a game
>>333696093
It's neither, its just an ad because they have time slots next to each other.
>>333690149
There's over 800 episodes now, there have 100% for sure been more than 365 days' worth of cases.
So yes, that's bullshit. But time progression in DC makes about as much sense as it does in cape comics, you just learn to roll with it.
>>333690463
Same things that make many series enduring.
1.A good hook that's done well
2.Respecting the fans
3.Knowing what people want and delivering in a timely fashion
4.Momentum
5.Occasionally throwing something new in to keep the readers on their toes. Gauging reaction to it among the fans and changing or dumping it as necessary.
>>333696184
This infuriates me and puts my heart at ease at the same time. One on hand, we don't have to suffer the QUALITY of the animation staff for PW. On the other hand, we miss out on one of the more interesting crossovers of our time.
>>333697731
>One on hand, we don't have to suffer the QUALITY of the animation staff for PW

>>333697880
Not really. There's a few screencaps of the anime floating around here; refer to the archives for more if you're interested, I'm not looking through trash just to show a hobo more trash, he already should know what there is around here -- Trash.

Feels like the lady is a red herring and the real Rum will be revealed after the credits like the Akai reveal in 18. This also probably means he's about to be revealed in the manga to coincide with the movie.

>>333690463
The ever expansive cast keeps it fresh and the cases themselves are never stale. The overarching story is also addressed often enough to hold interest from people that want progression. Just to give you an example:Conan acquires a method to revert back temporarily, however he's been gaining an immunity to it so it hasn't show up much lately. He's also had quite a few direct encounters with the main bad guys who shrunk.
But as for the anime, I have no fucking idea. It's been fine for a few years now, but in the beginning they went out of their way to try and murder the show. Basically every episode before the introduction of the girl in pic related was part of the Conan anime's dogshit beginning, mostly the TV originals and two certain retarded changes the anime did where they failed to kill a character (later fixed, but you get an odd sense that this should have happened much sooner) and where they failed to properly introduce the codenames of the two men in black in the beginning. That one is literally never fixed. The names are pulled out of thin air.
Nowadays the anime is great, even the TV originals are alright.
Coincidentally, the Case Closed dub only covers this shit section in the beginning. It ends at 123 while that first fix is episode 128, and this girl is introduced in 129. They were that close.
tl;dr the formula works, and if you don't like formulas there's still room for appeal.

Doyle doesn't have the ending written and hidden away in a safe somewhere to be released in the event of his death, with minor revisions depending on plot developments.
