You know the chinks will probably have a hack to make it work on PC within a week.

Might be a nice option if you can't afford an OR or Vive, but isn't it generally not as good as either of those?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyone who buys VR day1 is retarded anyways.
>>
>>333670917
The resolution is slightly lower, but the sub-pixel number and density is higher so that compensates.
Screendoor effect due to it is the lowest of the three.
its about 10 degrees lower FOV, but that's horizontal FOV so its not very noticeable.
Same refresh rate, same tracking precisions.
A bit lighter and more balanced than the other two.
And if you wear glasses its supposedly quite a bit more accommodating than the other two as far as visor adjustability.
>>
>>333671671
Also allows for 120fps

Sounds like it would be a perfect option for someone not wanting to pay an extra $200.

Few issues being support, especially if you are using it on PC to play OR or Vive games, not sure if saving $200 would be worth the headache.

It definitely looks like it'll be comfortable to wear.

>Few issues being support, especially if you are using it on PC to play OR or Vive games, not sure if saving $200 would be worth the headache.

Apparently both Oculus and Vive teams stated officially that they will not lock any games behind a headset exclusivity.

So you'll need their respective storefronts (Oculus store or Steam) to get the games, but they'll supposedly support any headset natively.

That's the beauty of this gen. None of the headsets are as good as they could be, but they're all great and the companies are more concerned with making VR as a medium succeed then they are on cornering the market, since VR is just kicking off as a widespread product, its sink or swim for all of them.

>>
>>333672765
Cool, I had no idea about that. I still think its a reasonable concern to worry that the PSVR won't naturally work on these games, especially if it needs to be modded to work on PC.

I've no doubt it'll end up working for all games, I just feel like the amount of work you'd have to do to get the games to work wouldn't be worth saving $200, and getting a somewhat inferior headset.

Only time will tell.

You know what the worst part is?
I believe that VR is just a gimmick, a neat one at that, but ultimately just a gimmick. So I'm not interested on buying into it.
Yet my jew-greed sees the bundle and the shekel savings and it's like fuck.

>I believe that VR is just a gimmick
Why and how.
>>
>>333670672
PSVR has less resolution and (at least on PS4) runs at interpolated 60fps. it's garbage.
>>
>>333674404
I don't see it replacing KB+M or monitors. Not all games are gonna support it or implement it and not everyone is gonna be able to use them. It is also, at this time, an expensive investment when considering the Vive, but that'll go down in price eventually.
But I am interested in it and I hope I'm proven wrong and VR won't be just a cool gimmick. So I'm probably going to wait a year or so and see where VR has gone.

>>333674404
Calm down friend. I'm just expressing my opinions/doubts and not shitposting.
>>
>>333675045

60 FPS can be overcome if it was rigged to a PC.

PSVR is also the only headset that doesn't use a suction cup on your fucking face. That alone is worth the resolution hit for comfort.

I'll definitely get one if pc support is viable that the thing.

>I don't see it replacing KB+M or monitors.
I think only a small subset is trying to replace KB+M, a lot of them still use KB+M or Controller. Very few are actually motion intensive.

>Not all games are gonna support it or implement it and not everyone is gonna be able to use them.
On PC literally every non-VR native game already has a VR hack/patch either officially released or made by fans.
On console they obviously need to be made for VR, but no VR games can still enjoy the virtual cinema thing.

>It is also, at this time, an expensive investment when considering the Vive, but that'll go down in price eventually.
Its a reasonable argument, but at the same time calling it an "expensive investment when considering the Vive" is the same as calling a car an "expensive invsetment when considering the Tesla" Sure Vive is expensive, but others do the same thing in essentially the same way. Vive isn't better, its just different. unlike the other two, Vive is also not intended general users, because of its roomscale VR you literally have to devote a room or a large area to it, its more of an enthusiast level product.

>But I am interested in it and I hope I'm proven wrong and VR won't be just a cool gimmick. So I'm probably going to wait a year or so and see where VR has gone.
Your arguments have validity to it, but I think you're still somewhat misusing the term gimmick. Just because it won't replace the keyboard and mouse and time soon doesn't automatically make it a gimmick. And the other reasons are really personal opinion.

How much tinfoil do you have on your head? I haven't been around lately the last few days, I've just seen the giantbomb thread where everyone was shitting on the Vive for being basically Wii tier.
Its launch, not sure what people are expecting. You should usually wait a year before you even consider investing in new tech. There will hardly be any games for the foreseeable future.

VR is definitely here to stay, this time, and the certainty of that is all down to Valves Lighthouse system - the fact that they've pretty much solved 1:1 motion control, have created the first real 3D mouse. Digital content creation is the secret killer app, here.

You're right, I shouldn't use the word gimmick. Maybe I'm confusing it with fad. But non-the-less you make some good points and I'll keep an open mind towards VR and shit.

yes that's the thread. what you don't seem to be aware of is that almost the exact same thread was posted at least twice more, back-to-back. significant portions, again, literally identical, and if you actually read them they were pointing to Oculus Rift as 'real gaming with no forced waggle gimmick'.

Haptics are preventing real combat training, like firearms and swordfighting. You know, recoil and force, etc, so that is still a gen or two away.

But as it is right now, I can see if someone bothers to code proper phyisics and everything, it would give a really good platform for reflex training. For example, imagine shadow boxing where you had actual boxer who's speed you could adjust.

Because I want third person camera, gamepad controls, and PS2 era visuals.

Everyone just wants motion controls in first person with stylized visuals.

And I'm starting to thing the new version of the PS4 might be necessary for it too.

This thing might even end up more fucking expensive than the goddamn vive.

I don't know, to be honest, I'm aware the visual fidelity was not all that great, low poly counts, low texture resolutions etc... But even to this day over 20 years of gaming I still get the greatest amount of comfy feels playing PS2 and Gamecube games.

I think I enjoy the idea of games looking like games, you know? Like I do still want better resolutions but, I just find low-poly graphics and simplified visuals charming, The reason I say PS2 era rather than retro, is because retro is fucking stupid, its overly simplified polygonal artstyle that has no creativity or imagination.

BTW, that's in regards to what's necessary, not what's included.
You're right it includes neither, but move will not be necessary. And in fact only a small amount of games use it in any capacity.
>>
>>333672765
They kinda have no choice but to keep the games non-exclusive. It's easy to have games exclusive to platforms like consoles and PCs because there will be a large install base for all the platforms, and there can be differences between hardware capability and features. With VR headsets however, the user base is already going to be extremely small, because you not only need a capable PC/PS4, but you also need to have another 400-600 dollar piece of metal and plastic just to play the games. If the already small amount of games were split between different headsets, most people would just say "fuck it"

porn videos are in every HMDs, including PSVR. Porn games only for PC. But I'm not sure how frequently you'd actually fap to a game with VR strapped to your face. handeling mouse controls/keyboard shortcuts and your dick at the same time seems like too much effort.
I'd rather just watch a video, either 3DPD for a game capture.

>>333685619
Move controllers are not necessary. Only a literal handful of games use them and they are mostly the demo/showcase type (London Heist, Job Simulator, etc) not the ones you'd want to invest long hours in. Most other games just use the normal controller, which in PS4's case also doubles as a trackable 1:1 controller in VR so you can still interact with object physically while maintaining normal controls.

>And I'm starting to thing the new version of the PS4 might be necessary for it too.
That's a very silly assumption. VR will be a niche. Sony wants the largest consumer base possible, which will be between 40 to 50 million by October. At best 1 million PSVR will be sold by the end of the year from that big pool. Being PS4K exclusive would be suicide.

>>333673035
There is only a difference of 240x120 pixels between PSVR and the competition.
When people talk about "seeing pixels" they are refering to the screendoor effect. PSVR despite having a slightly lower resolution, has much better subpixels, which result in the least screendoor of all 3.

For instance with red colors Vive/Oculus have 3x more black space between pixels than PSVR, while with green colors there's less of a difference. That's because every pixel in PSVR has all 3 colors, it's the same (full RGB), while the others use PentTile displays, which vary case by case in shape and pattern but roughly translates to Green>Red>Green>Blue[repeating] instead of RGB>RGB>RGB from PSVR
