1 had freerunning
1 had moments of clarity where you listened to the enemy's beliefs and motivation
2 had freerunning
2 had kinda sorta enemy motives
3 had free running
4 had almost nothing
5 had boats
and now these last two have almost completely killed off the free running by turning you into half-spiderman. There's no point to it anymore.

Yes. They had one last chance to save it with Unity, but they completely fucked it up. Shame because the game's combat was actually good for an AC game imo, since it's hard and slow, but still manageable. It forces you to run in some situations where there is too many people, or to just silently assassinate the target. Otherwise, you'd get fucked by the guards. Assassinations were alright too, much better than previous games, but the stealth system needed more work.
Everything else about Unity was shit. The MC was just a French Ezio. The performance was shit and the graphics were god awful because of all the pop in. side missions were shit. The open world was shit, and had too many people, which made it annoying to maneuver through. On top of that the models for them looked like they were from a ps2 game. The free running was shit and clunky. Who thought it was a good idea to have a climb up and down button while running? And lastly the story was so boring it made me start skipping cut scenes halfway through.

AC1 made me think the third game was going to be a modern day setting. I really wanted it, too.
So the reason why Desmon got killed off was because a bunch of dudebros didn't want to deal with the desmond miles story and just wanted to be the assassins in the animus all game long. Desmond was originally suppose to find the ancestor of Eve and train her to be an assassin so she could take over as the main character and stop the solar flares. I didn't give a fuck about Calico Jack, Ben Hornigold, etc... despite Edward acting like everything was a big betrayal because you only had about 10 minutes worth of interaction. Blackbeard had the most development, but even then it was shitty.
And Rogue? Good lord, the Assassins are still good, they're just dumb. And your character's turn to the Templars is just over and done with instantly.
You meet some assassins for about 2 minutes. A bit more for the woman and the Frenchman. Your brother in arms, Liam, is about as exciting as a watching paint dry and there's no camaraderie.
Then after you turn, Shay just kind of sees that the black guy helping him is a Templar and just goes 'huh.' Then a timeskip to him getting a letter where he's congratulated for helping the Templars and Shay just kind of shrugs.
The core gameplay was fun, but these stories are so fucking dumb.
Oh, and Ubisoft is so desperate to be diverse it's ridiculous. From what I hear

My issue with the games is that they've forgotten about the historical aspect entirely at this point. Alright, they were never exactly accurate, but at least they tried to make things somewhat convincing. Now it's just a videogame world with landmarks, there's barely even any real historical figures. Also, I don't want to act like a /pol/ faggot, but the way they inject modern liberal ideals into everything just comes across as weird. I'd rather things were accurate for the period than dumb pandering, that shouldn't be what these games are about.
I remember the first one had that "multicultural" message at the start because they thought it would offend Muslims. Now it's just a way to prove how fucking "tolerant" they are.
