What went wrong?
do you really have to ask?
Sometimes a golden goose only has so many eggs. And they ran out by the time Microsoft bought them.
>>333656707
The team they had under Nintendo was the best.
When Microsoft bought them, they fired all the "grunts" and only kept the "big names"
In reality, the no-name programming grunts were what actually made Rare great, and the head honchos were just the ones taking all the credit.
A lot went wrong, but now, now is time for some change.

This went wrong

Trusting Nintendo to make a console powerful enough to support their '64-bit' games. Trusting Microsoft to... well, just trusting Microsoft.
Honestly Rare did have some decent games in the Microsoft era.
>>333656707
DK64
Then Micro$hit finished them off.
>>333657970
What was wrong with dk64? I had a lot of fun with that
>>333658151
It was very glitchy. And suffered from an overabundance of collectibles.
Kinect era. Rare has always put out weird titles that are fun in their own right, and Banjo Nuts & Bolts and Viva Pinata are among them.
They ran outta ideas. just look at the dinosaur game they made for gamecube

WHY
IS
PHIL
SO
BASED
>>333657970
You know, to be fair, Rare had multiple teams under their belt. The same team that made DK64 also previously made DKC3, which is considered by many fans to be the weakest of the DKC trilogy.
Anybody who says "Muh MS" fails to realize how fun Kameo and Viva Pinata was
Kinect definitely fucked them hard though but >>333657474 is a good sign
>>333656707
Employees leaving combined with the Microsoft buyout.
At least we got Viva PiƱata out of it.
half the talent left to form Free Radical over 10 years ago
several other left a few years later
I will never not see that logo as a toilet roll
rip
>>333658804Dk3 is equal to Dk1
Rareware games have aged like milk
the games were too rare
>>333656707
Microsoft basically squandered most of all of their assets after like Kameo
The logo looks like a toilet paper roll, what did you expected?
>>333659759
They sure had some shitty bosses.
>>333660912
xD
Here is your upvote! Haha.
Jet Force Gemini will forever be the best game they made in my eyes
>>333659695
madness
The warning signs started at DKC3.
They mostly turned to shit DK64 onwards.

I didn't realise till recently that the guy who's running the studio now used to run Sumo Digital and was responsible for getting both Sanic Racing games made (Though he left just as pre-production ended on Transformed). I mean, say what you want about "Muh old talent" but when they get big gets like that and the old guys at playtonic are hype for Sea Of Thieves (Because they taught the new batch at Rare). Then they might have a chance of doing good.
Also it's Gregg's Pirate game he's been wanting to make for 20 years now.
>>333656707
Nintendo sold a near empty company to Microsoft for way to much money and laugh all the way to bank and beyond

DKC2 is indisputably the best, but to me DCK1 is the worst and DKC3 is still better. DKC3's only real failing point is Kiddy. He controls terribly and there's just basically no reason to use him except against heavy duty enemies or to throw Dixie. I thought the levels were the best out of all three games in terms of diversity and challenge.
