DICE, actually. BF2 and 2142 were the two big shooters that had excessive grinding forever to unlock shit straight up better than what you start with (BF2 unlock weapons almost universally being better than the faction weapons) and even having core components of your class locked out requiring you to unlock them while being totally shit on by leveled up players (2142).
COD4 came out afterwards with a less shitty design where the stuff you started with was just as good as later stuff and you could breeze through the levels to unlock everything in no time, unlocks were mostly just different styles to work with. Unfortunately almost everyone else kept going with Battlefield's design where you're fucking gimped starting off and you have to grind your ass off to get stuff to be equal to those who play more than you.
So, erase DICE. Better yet, erase EA.
