BB has far less world connectivity than DaS1 (but still a fair bit) but its individual levels are very similar to DeS in design with a single respawn point at the beginning and you dont get another one until you beat the boss, so there's multiple shortcuts and ways to make it bareable.
Dark Souls (all 3) have bonfires in the middle of levels and very often more than one per area.
