Is there any change to the layout of the world? The first game was decent, but I felt zero drive to return and replay anything, and exploring the levels for chests was kind of a waste of time. They didn't really hammer out the kinks in marrying musou and DQ together, I guess.

I really loved DQH, even though I generally can't play Musou games. And since then I even finished DQ games 1-6.
Can't wait for DQH2. Is there a release date? Andis it coming to PC?
What is the appeal of VIII? I see the appeal of the others but not VIII. I'm a fan of the series but wonder what others see in VIII as it looks very basic. Also the character designs seem pretty generic to me. I want to get 3ds VIII when it releases but don't have the reason to.

VIII was the first one where you could see you characters perfoming actions and that opened a whole new appeal to the art direction of the game. You see your swords, shields, etc change as you equip them and it gave a better eye appeal. I personally think that 8 along with heroes are the 2 best art directed dragon quest games.
Some people like it because it's more traditional to the RPG formula and less "Dragon Quest" like (meaning it looks more like other RPGs and not so much like DQ)
Though honestly you can't go more RPG than Dragon Quest

VIII's characters have more personality than most in the series, it was the first 3D game and it had a very vibrant and cozy world. Only one that might be better is V.

V will always be my favorite RPG story.
I started playing the child arc and was like "Oh boy, can't wait to get the magical thingamabob and start my adventure", and then the story just gave me a huge middle finger to the face. I wasn't expecting that turn in a dragon quest game and I loved it.

Yeah 5 is lovely shit. The grievance I have with it is the supporting cast is weak. Like, your story is badass as all get out, but no-one who joins up with you really has any agency. Stills great though. 8 has little minor arcs with some moving scenes for even sub characters who never join you, and it really takes the game to the next level, for me.

Oh man, I had a blast with DQH.
If there's one thing I'd like them to make better it was how long menu and shop navigation was. I know it simulated old Dragon Quest games menus but it was just frustrating at times.
If they could increase basic movement speed a small amount and make dodge roll cancels a bit more fluid and connected certain attacks that'd be great. But they aren't important.
I loved the fight against the Bjorn the Behemoose.

I actually thought about it too. Could be cool. They could even use the DQH engine and shit, the art style is similar.
