It is pretty annoying and a frequent issue in older games. All kana is hell to read as well. I tend to stay away from NES and Gameboy games in general.

I never found this to be bothersome at all. It would probably be more annoying playing a game since you're probably more tense and what to move on to the next part faster, but I started reading with manga so I don't know.

I had fun learning by doing things that I enjoy
I like Phoenix wright I played that shit so many times, even when I had too look things up every sentence when trying for jap when I played it ages ago. I understood what was going on could notice difference for what was said and so on, even though it took some time during then.
I also liked case closed and tried a bunch of other stuff I liked that I did in english first that I did in jap.

You have to sit down and start memorizing grammar. It sucks at first but it goes by quickly, and once you can start reading things and they make sense, it'll be lots of fun. Once you know your grammar, the rest is just looking up words. If you don't mind typing stuff into jisho.org every few seconds, then you can start building vocab by playing games or reading books. Things just get easier from there.

Its really not that hard. It just takes lots of time, and since you're a neet, you have lots of time to read. Make it a goal to read this (pic) as soon as possible. Really, the secret to learning japanese, is not memorizing a bunch of shit on anki via 6000k deck: its reading and listening as much as FUCKING possible, with sufficient COMPREHENSION. first, learn hiragana and katakana. Then make it a goal, to learn 3 new kanji words a day.

Also, some life advice, dont make learning japanese you're only goal. If you want to become an English teacher, get good as FUCK in english. Like, super elite level. Know your parts of speech and verb tenses are. Do you even know the difference between perfect and basic verbs? If you want to get good at english, read a lot of novels
