I liked the idea of it more than how it actually turned out; not that it was horrible or even bad, it was just kind of boring and would've required a lot of going in and out of menus to re-jig your combo. The Vanquish slot was a bit pointless too considering it only came out when the enemy was going to die.
Being able to switch in real time has a steeper learning curve and requires more attention but combat is absolutely more exciting for it.
