Here are some basic facts about the NX for you people to chew on.
NX is a PLATFORM. Not a console.
Nintendo is releasing TWO pieces of hardware for this platform. Console and portable. They both:
1. Use the same cartridges
2. Use the same ARM v8 cores
3. Use a big.LITTLE design. This is NOT for scaling; LITTLE cores run the OS.
4. Have a "second" screen.
5. Have clickable scroll wheels for the L1 and L2 buttons.
The differences:
1. The console version has two more "big" ARM v8 cores for a total of four cores. The handheld only has two big cores and two LITTLE cores.
2. The console version has a shit ton of GDDR5 RAM. 8GB.
I don't know much about the portable version because I don't do anything with it. It looks a lot like the DS. It doesn't have 3D.
Porting games from the PS4 to the NX actually won't be that easy. The graphics are PowerVR, NOT AMD. This is probably great for the handheld. Not so much for the console.

The console is more powerful than the Wii U, but not significantly so. It is able to output 1080p on the main screen at 30FPS for the game we are promoting, and the second screen still runs at 720p. It can also do "splitscreen" between the two devices which both run at 30FPS, which I find pretty impressive--and it can run more screen controllers this way as well.
But the graphics are honestly not that much better than the Wii U. They are better, but I would say it can't match the PS4 while it is devoting resources to the second screen.
Nintendo is banking that people will still consider their version of things "definitive" because it can also play on the handheld device.

Yes.
The console has the same broadcom chip in it, and it works with the Wii U game pad. The idea is for it to be able to 12 player multiplayer, but it can't actually do that unless a number of the other players are playing on the handheld device with their own CPUs. But you could definitely use your tablet to be Player 6 and have your own screen.

I don't think the dev console I've seen will look anything like the finished product. It was bigger than the Wii U, even though it uses cartridges instead of discs and ARM instead of PowerPC.
But the controller is beautiful. Even though it's extremely similar to the Wii U tablet in functionality, Nintendo has obviously tried very hard to make it look as different as possible. For one thing, it's smaller, and the grips extend more like gamepad grips. I should mention by the way that Nintendo has finally moved to capacitive touch, which is part of the reason why the controller is smaller. You can reach more of the screen more easily becaue 1. the grips are actually the edges 2. the distance to the screen from the edge is smaller. The one I we are using is a brushed white with colorful famicon style buttons, but it has a very matte look which makes it seem more like it belongs in a graphic design firm than a toys-r-us.

We do talk about it a lot. I don't know much more about it than you do.
From what I've heard, the PS4.5K exists only because Sony fucked up with the Morpheus and realized to late the PS4 wasn't powerful enough to run VR comfortably.
I think it will alienate PS4 users, who will be more likely to buy an NX. But I don't know if people who haven't bought anything this gen will buy a PS4.5K or an NX. We will certainly undercut them on price, but VR is the fad right now.

Yes. My thinking is that most people who bought the Wii U are hardcore Nintendo fans who will buy one of the new systems anyway and will want it for the new system, like we saw with the GC and Wii. But many people who were on the fence about buying the Wii U will now have every reason to buy an NX system, and we want them to buy one of the new systems instead.
I have never actually seen it in action, and can only guess what the differences between the two versions might be. I'm willing to bet the scroll wheels let you switch between items, and that the item screen will have "rows" for fast switching like you saw on ALBW.

Honestly, having thought about it, I'm probably just being paranoid by not mentioning it. I'm working on highlighting features of the next Mario Kart game. There will be a few non-Mario Nintendo characters in the game at launch, but it's still called "Mario Kart." They want those featured prominently, but more importantly, they want to show the expanded multiplayer and the ability to take the game on the go.

Pikachu, Kirby, and Link are all prominently displayed in the marketing and will definitely be playable at the start of the game. My understanding is that the decision to include other Nintendo characters came from a design standpoint; Nintendo felt like they needed to diversify the roster for the expanded multiplayer. It does make it easier to show that more people are playing.
The real question, NX "leaker" anon, is whether NX will have usable online or not, similar to XBL or PSN. In that sense, I do mean with regards to both friends systems and also shop purchases.

Well, I can say this about the friends system. I think this is a really cool feature.
Let's say you have a portable NX system and you come over to my house to play Mario Kart. We end up using your NX system as a controller.
You and I are now "friends" and can play Mario Kart online together after you leave. The part I think is really cool is I can invite you to join a VS match I have going on with friends locally even while you are away. You can even join in the middle of a multirace tournament by bumping off a CPU character.

I don't think this is what people actually want.
I actually have a lot of faith in the NX platform. I think the ability to take a cartridge out of your console and then carry it with you and play it on the go is really cool. I think the ability to play with more than four of your friends at once is awesome, and comes at a time when Playstation and Xbox are abandoning local multiplayer entirely.
There's a lot of things people hate about the new consoles, too. Long disc load times will be gone. DLC from Nintendo will either be free or actually worth your money. And the NX will have new features that are actually useful, instead of just "this looks slightly better than it did before."
I also think that it will be successful because having the same games available for both portable and console will give it a larger install base. Some people will only buy the portable system to start. Others will only buy the console. But all of these people can play the same games, and play them together too. Imagine if you just added the Wii U and 3DS install base together, across all regions, and that's your new install base. It's great for developers.

I don't think Nintendo has good third party relations to the point of this being possible. It looked like it was going that way with the WiiU but I remember EA suddenly deciding to tell them to fuck off about a year in (after some really terrible support) and ubisoft also backed away after reviewers tore zombiu apart, not to mention the rayman legends shit.

They're actually really satisfying to use.
There's a new mechanic in Mario Kart that lets you "store" items and use them later. You switch between them with the wheel. It's also really helpful in certain UI segments. It's feels great switching through all the bikes and karts you've unlocked with the wheel.
