What does /v/ think of 3d head scanning tech ? Apparently, now you can use a random phone camera to scan yourself in multiple games.

This shit's been around since The Sims, and it looks like the technology's barely progressed. Looks like a laugh in GTA or something though
>>
>>333524369
You gotta give it some credit tho, they didn't use any source from ea games or shit like that. They did it from scratch
>>
>>333524369
they did it with a fucking tablet. and it was a legit scan. Gotta give them credit for that.
>>
>>333524493
Sure, but it still requires a $400 camera and an iPad.
>>
How narcissistic do you have to be to do this?
>>
>>333523284
NSA and CIA like this.
>>
>>333523284
Amusing, but it needs voice acting (which would be a lot of work and not just a repaint job I imagine).
Once we're on that level tho, we're on that level tho.

Jesus Christ dude, just looks like something you'd do with your mates for a bit of a laugh.
>>
>>333525189
I fail to comprehend how this can be applied in thus situation

>>333525547
That's because you have no friends, Andrew.

Meh, it might be cool to scan my mom into a porn game or something but I'm really not interested in having my game characters look like me

I've never done this in my life.
I use vidya as escapism

I can imagine Conan O'brien using this once for a Clueless Gamer episode. Beyond that it's literally normal people trying to approach video games and doing it so, so wrong.
>>
>>333526285

These things aren't mutually exclusive. By making the character resemble oneself, one can reinforce the fantasy that the game is reality as opposed to one's life outside it.
>>
I did it with my dog in a game I can't remember, it was pretty fun
>>
The face textures they uploaded don't seem to mesh well with the lighting in the game. In its current state it reminds me of how games from the early 2000s used to layer over characters' faces with a texture that was just a modified photo of the actual actor who voiced them.

>and doing it so, so wrong.
According to some faggot in a board dedicated to videogames, that can barely manage to stay on topic most months.
Shaking in my boots when you tell me your opinion!

Literally nobody wants this
>>
>>333524898
That's about half a grand of tech. What it means is you could scan people into your games. Imagine if they allow this for cod games? Or Arma?
>>
>>333527442
I just don't think it looks any better than something filmed with a Kinect
>>
>>333525987
I see this technology as something animators would use. Even just to make a simple 3D human model it's got potential. Especially if it can film animations.
>>
>>333527202
It's because they get the texture from the scan which has lighting already baked into it
>>
>>333527369
speak for yourself
>>
>>333527760
Good point, it might need editing after but it could be a good shortcut.
