The Wyrm Spike, dropped from Lava Strykewyrms or the variant species, the WildyWyrm. You attach it to your level 70 abyssal whip or level 75 vine whip and you get a level 85 degradable lava whip. No, I mean, you go to some kind of Shop Navigator NPC and then you can tell them what item you want to buy, and they'd bring up a list of player-owned shops with that item. You could go find the actual shop via Construction portals once the Navigator tells you where to find it, go in, and make the exchange there, or you could pay the Navigator a +5% fee on top of the money for the item to go retrieve it for you.
Players would be able to jam down Signs for their shop, a little like clan vexillums, and it'd shill their shop with a player-written message that pops up over it as if a player were saying it.

Drop a Kiosk with coal, drop it near a furnace, and players can link to the kiosk in a way that will automatically buy coal from it as they smelt ore in their inventory, let them do like 28 adamantite or runite ore per inventory, or maybe they could extract rune essence from it next to an altar so they could just keep mass crafting certain runes instead of having to get various teleportation methods to circumvent long treks.
Shit, players could pay into their own kiosks to burn money simply to have an extended inventory, pulling out food or materials and the money simply disappears from the economy or spreads out among monster money drops all over the world.

The reason not to use the GE is how centralizing and community-degrading it is. Bankstanding was already an issue before the GE, but now that it's easier than ever to sell and buy things easy peasy, without ever having to interact with another player, people just stand in literally one spot (or a different one spot if you actually do quests) in the world at all times. There's no traveling, you don't find different kinds of items being sold in different parts of the world. It's almost TOO convenient.
100% I would have preferred no GE to GE simple based on the effect it has on the community, but I'm not so deluded as to think that some kind of improved trading system wouldn't be welcome.

No. You wouldn't check prices inside your store, you'd go out and visit the Shop Navigator, and I doubt most people would constantly go in and out of their stores to keep their item at the lowest price unless they were really desperate. Being within the top 20 of lowest prices would probably be enough for most folks as I imagine those would sell out rather quickly and even if it didn't, most people would probably just dump their shit and be done with it.
Also the signs are literally automated pre-GE shop hawking, except you can potentially get people to buy more than one item from your shop as they go in, plus you'd have WAY more slots to just dump shit you wanna sell in. Hell you might be able to make various kinds of "deals" for buying multiple items or buying unusual items.
In the end, while it may be mechanically less efficient than just the general GE, it would still be better than no GE at all by a huge margin, and feel more involved than the GE, perhaps even visceral, actually feeling like some kind of merchant or shopkeeper.

You're correct about the scimmy but incorrect about the whip, the tentacle thing you can combine the whip to create the abyssal tentacle or whatever it's called in osrs gets depleted after a certain amount of uses, after it's used up it will either return the tentacle or the whip, creating a money sink and making whips more expensive as the variable cost goes up.
